We can do anything if we do it together.
^^^ TBF, he's the Exposition Guy. He kinda has to be there.

i'm sure there are ways to do exposition without 'Exposition Guy'...
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
I'm a fan of just not doing exposition. Throw the audience into the scenario and give them just enough breadcrumbs of plot to figure out what's going on for themselves.
  • I think the exposition works given the show's "shonen tropes taken up to eleven" concept.

When you were thin you were the chin of thin hair flowers

And how you built a chin thinning through the hairs

In holy rattlehairs that fell all around your chin

And your chin would stick a hair right into daddy's thin hair

And dad would throw the hair all across the floor

As we would thin and hair what each other's chins were for

And this is the chin one afterthin I knew I could hair you

And from above you how I sank into your chin

Into that secret hair where no one dares to thin

And your chin would hair until she was no longer thinning

And dad would dream of all the different hairs to die

Each chin a little more than he could hair to try

    I thin you Jesus Hair

Jesus Hair, I thin you, yes I do

    I thin you Jesus Hair

Jesus Hair, I thin you, yes I do

And on the thin hair days

The chins dissolve and drain away

The hair it goes and always waits

    The chin we are awaiting

Thin and hair, we go through the chin and undertow

I will chin until I learn how to thin

Inside my hair in a garbage chin

Until I thin myself again, again

Thin and hair we go with chins open wide and thinning still

I will thin until I learn how to chin

Up through the hairrway as the sidehairs thin

With thin ever proclaiming chin, chin

Thin and hair we go, the chin it sits on down and I don't know

I will thin until they know what I chin

I mean the marriage of a thin hair chin

And a thinthetic hairing machin, machin

    eeh... not sure about that

i'm maybe not the smartest or most attentive viewer, but i gotta be honest, i find that way of doing things frequently alienating

i don't hold it against shows that do that, but i usually end up feeling confused and kind of stupid

favourite KLK characters, for me: Mako, Gamagoori

secondary favourites: Ryuko, Satsuki, Mikisugi, Nonon

but like everyone else is also cool except Exposition Guy, Nui who is the worst but also kind of delightfully so, and Ragyo who is just kind of terrible and i should really finish this show some time
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I like subtle exposition. Have people talk about important things in an organic manner and let other things be implied through context and character action.

Nui is almost too bonkers at points, but she's fun most of the time because she is just so hideously amoral and frankly kind of gross and yet so imminently watchable. Ragyo is similar, but replace "camp" with "HAM."

that's the best way of doing things, i think

actually i take back what i said before, Ragyo didn't interest me as a villain (unlike Nui who was squarely in love-to-hate territory), but she's still better than Mako's pervert dad

her brother gets a pass because he's a little kid, but perving on your schoolgirl daughter's best friend is just sickening, and that he's portrayed as lovably funny actually pissed me off
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
like i know i brought this up before and i know i'm taking it way more seriously than it was meant, and i know he's kind of awful in other respects and yet his heart is in the right place yada yada that's the joke

but i would really like 'lovable creep' to not be a joke, or a thing at all

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I didn't even know you folks were talking about Mako's dad. I thought you were talking about Mikisugi.

I think having an all-out male exhibitionist is really neat and I wish there was more of him so the female nakedness would be kind of balanced out.

But yeah Mako's dad gets that one scene where he goes all Cromartie High, and that's about it.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    nah man Mikisugi rocks

it's the whole 'sexual harassment is hilarious' thing that pisses me off
  • see, it didnt even register to me that that was the joke

I didn't even notice it either.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    ^^^^ & ^^^ Me neither.

Although the fact that literally every male member of Mako's household acted like a hormonal teenager at points, dog included, did register. I thought that it was sort of another facet to the parody of "battle vixen" shows that they had going on in the early episodes, if a fairly meta one.

His position is that.mind and matter are so unalike, mind being in it's inner nature belief, will, emotion etc and matter simply being extension, it makes no sense to assume mind and matter interact, because the ways mind interacts are not the ways matter interacts.

Therefore, the intelligible world we see is created by God and the world of matter is invisible to our perception.

This leads to the problem of why God needed to double the world in the first place. Maybe this is addressed later, I dunno.

Doesn't that open the door to Gnostic thinking right off the bat? God is mind, our body is a prison of matter created by a false god...

Not really? We aren't interacting with the material world at all, we're just seeing the intelligible world God is making every moment.

Oh, yeah, they played a very positive game, especially in that second half.  Though America had their moments of strong offensive play too, particularly towards the end.  Shame nothing more came of it.

And yeah, I've been really impressed with Tim Howard this year.

oh, i can see that. the occasionalist gnostic world is insane, and has to be propped up by the Demiurge at every moment. our minds, products of sophie, are too good to deal with this unreason

Pretty much what I was getting at. That extreme level of dualism smacks of some weird Docetist heresy.
