It just occurred to me, you might like Wind Waker. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you'd be into usually but you mentioned interest in open world games and the Zelda series has a weirdly unique mythology.
It's a really odd interpretation of European mythology filtered through a Japanese understanding, but ends up having a weird mishmash of pretty much all non-Japanese cultures. Wind Waker's aesthetic, for example, was primarily influenced by Pacific Islander culture with a spattering of Arthurian mythology.
And because the series has a really good interpretation of the hero's journey. It's like the perfect blend between borrowed iconography/concepts and unique ones.
Oh lordy, one of the Verizon ads on Blip is using part of "Steal My Sunshine". I'm far more OK with that than I was the loud, generic techno-rock they were using. XD

i remember a very interesting and informative article about exactly why 70s fashion was so terrible, but i can't find it again and i have forgotten some salient details.
basically, the thing was that there were several highly incompatible high fashion trends (the only one i can remember was bohemian/hippie chic), and retailers and designers further down the food chain generally try to merge as many current trends as possible to maximize their consumer base, so everything just imploded into a mess of brown 112% polyester leisure suits.

You almost have to wonder if will.i.am was playing some sort of character as part of a KLF-style con, but got too deep and started becoming the character he was playing.
That's really the only rational explanation for his existence.

That actually makes a lot of sense. As a comparison, Kesha was doing the whole KLF-ish "be trashy sell records" thing at first, but has actually gotten more organic over time, whereas will.i.am has gotten progressively worse.
