This character is unplayable not because it's mechanically weird, or too optimized, or because the concept is silly or it wouldn't be effective or fit in to a DM's setting. Rather, I'll never get to play it because I'll never find a group in which the roleplaying would work. Basically, I realized awhile back that Melf's Unicorn Arrow is actually a pretty decent spell to put Arcane Thesis on. From there, it was the observation that a lot of nice spells involve rainbows (Color Spray, Prismatic stuff). This all built up to the concept of a Sorceror with Arcane Thesis: Melf's Unicorn Arrow who specializes in spells involving rainbows, glitter, and unicorns. The character would be flamboyantly, campily, enthusiastically gay, complete with a lisp. The build doesn't use much in the way of cheese, and would be solidly effective despite being able to argue for almost every power on thematic grounds. To a non-optimizer, the concept doesn't even seem particularly potent. Thus, it's the perfect way to sneak a solidly powerful but not disruptive character into a low-powered campaign. The problem, as mentioned, is the roleplaying. I'm never going to find a group that's not either too homophobic for the character to be run without making people uncomfortable, or too enlightened for the character to be run without people being offended, and even if I did the people would have to know me pretty well before I could consider running it, at which point the whole "sneak optimization" element wouldn't work.
This is true. A lot of gamers don't like to be challenged, they don't want others to "push the envelope". They'd rather feel comfortable in whatever nonsense they were doing, however hollow it is.
(I have some chatlogs of such a person - albeit a sexist and racist internet tough guy - on my blog)
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever
(also I haven't been on reddit since like Monday but if you're at the point where you assume you clairvoyantly know my internet habits that's not going to convince you of anything)

like, usually when you say "DAE" it's before a complaint about redditors saying "DAE think <popular opinion framed as unpopular opinion>" so the inference isn't that arbitrary

Surprisingly, this person seems to understand what danmaku is about. And maybe it is a kind of meditation. -shrug- Typically, when I play, I am either 1) trying a new thing, which can be a little interesting, 2) experimenting and improving, which is very stimulating and is probably my favorite part by far, or 3) going through a high-pressure execution of something that pushes my limit, which is... stressful and, depending on my mood, occasionally frustrating. But when I watch other people play, and I've probably spent more time watching gameplay than performing it, it is quite relaxing, especially if I understand everything that is happening. Danmaku is my favorite.

The actual process of executing a learned danmaku route is kind of a state of merging with the game, at a higher level of play, and not so much fighting the game as manipulating it. It's the really tough parts that cause stress, because then I can't predict exactly what will happen, and there is more intense decision-making. It's interesting to think about.
Also that class was really big on watching/reading/playing stuff solely so you could reference it to other people to appear smart, and that's not me putting words in anyone's mouth, that's literally what like half the class was about.
Oh crap. Unwinder is real, and already walks among us.
Fighting the Heavy Press from Cave Story, I got into this pattern. A few repetitions of this pattern, and I could feel myself relaxing further and further. I don't know if it was a real trance or just something that felt like one.
So I can totally buy bullet hell games being a form of meditation.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I don't ask for much from Google Images when it's not on super-safe-seach. Keep the sketch stuff at least two pagedowns away from the first couple of images.
I'll keep it a couple page-downs away...if you're using an 800x600 display! >:D

Hydrox is the brand name for a creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookie that debuted in 1908 and was manufactured by Sunshine (later Sunshine Biscuits).[1] The similar Oreo cookie—introduced later, in 1912—was inspired by the Hydrox, yet Hydrox suffered from the impression of being the knockoff.[2] Compared to Oreos, Hydrox cookies have a tangy, less-sweet filling and a crunchier cookie that gets less soggy in milk.[3]

This article makes a point that is by now probably getting old, but I find it eloquent and I like that it's from a straight male nerd perspective.

Even if I could, would I even want to wake up in a totally different time, out of place?
I find this fascinating, even ignoring the part about murders happening.
