  • My dreams exceed my real life
I was going to simply relax today, because I had a long day at work, but it turns out I must hang out at my dad's house instead of napping and watching movies.

    Stupid inventor of Father's Day
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
My dad doesn't care about father's day, perhaps thankfully.

I think he regards it as a made-up commercial holiday.

    R.I.P. Mr. Kasem.

Also, Father's Day seems more melancholy now that mine is, y'know, no longer alive.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

Also, weird coincidences: I'm exactly a day older than Tommy Pickles

Which is to say, I was born 10 August 1990

And the Rugrats episode "Tommy's First Birthday" originally aired on 11 August 1991

And what, you ignore Doug and R&S
  • My dreams exceed my real life
The first episode of Fairly Odd Parents aired next to Invader Zim.

As a kid, you assumed they would be around for the same length of time.

I wasn't watching Nick back then, so I was not aware of this

Also, as the opportunity came up, I don't like Butch Hartman's art style

  • PPG had similar problems, but that was nullified by excellent designs on all of the enemies. When Mojo Jojo gets hit, you see some gatdarn battle damage

Butch Hartman's art style seems, to me, geometric in a bad way

Were there even any character birthdays in those?

I never liked Butch Hartman's art style much, either.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

    mandarin is made of hissing

by that i mean sh sh sh th zh th sh th zh zh th zh th sh zh th th sh

    [/flamebait]

Cantonese doesn't have an "r." Mandarin does and uses it quite effectively.

But Hakka has implosives so let's go with the third option.

It's interesting how, in Fred Seibert having begged Nickelodeon to come back to them once the World Premiere Toons idea had borne so much fruit, their own Oh Yeah! Cartoons gave us two shows from Dexterpuff Crew members whose art styles were variations on it

My Life as a Teenage Robot had the better variation on it, but of course Nick ended up canning it after like two years
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Think you mixed up object and subject there, AU.

But yes, it is a little funny in hindsight.

...and I'm still sad about how Invader ZIM got kind of fucked over. I know that it's an acquired taste with some horribly obnoxious fans, but the first season was just so wonderfully bizarre and creepy and morbidly funny and it's taken until really recently for anything that out-there to get traction again and it makes me sad.

Also, Angry Beavers was great and no-one seems to remember that one.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I remember Angry Beavers, though I don't remember actually watching much of it.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
I remember Angry Beavers, and remember enjoying it a great deal.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It was odd and I liked it quite a bit, although I think my mom liked it even more because she caught a lot of the references that went over my head at first. But then, I got a lot of them regardless, because I was a weird kid that watched MST3K...

    ^ Yeah!

    Angry Beavers was the shit
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I am so happy to find people that actually saw and enjoyed this show.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I thought it was actually remembered fondly...enough so for Shout! Factory to put it on DVD
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It's remembered fondly, but only by a fairly small number of people insofar as I can tell.

I saw an Angry Beavers shirt at Goodwill a couple weeks ago but I did not purchase it because it was much too small for me
  • I never saw it but I know it's well-regarded.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You should seek it out. As should I, come to think of it.

On an entirely different note: Saltwater taffy.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
What is saltwater taffy?  I don't think we have it here.

It always sounded unappealing and, well, salty, not sweet.

It does not taste salty as a matter of fact.

It was invented in Atlantic City New Jersey, and is mainly made in that area, so it is not surprising it is not huge over there.

Supposedly the name comes from a confectioner whose candy shop was flooded with seawater

When a little girl came in asking for taffy he jokingly replied "well, I've got saltwater taffy!"
