Alright, yeah.  And it's not as though MIko feels a need to spend more than a month on a single Touhou Lunatic game.

  • someone asked me to contribute some poetry to a spoken word CD

after much deliberation, i have sent them a drone track

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
perhaps the drone track could be a background for a poem
  • i wrote some words for the accompanying chapbook which were essentially just a series of gnomic sentences about the sun and clouds and birds and mushrooms

but i havent spoken them over the track

Thousands of repetitive split-second tasks in sequence where three seconds of a break requires you to start over.  Look, medical transcriptionists can take three second breaks, and even they often get lots of stress and overworked nerves, also, strains.  Sleeping issues, too.

My mom's a medical transciptionist, and I can see the toll it's taking on her.

Normal mode is rather slow. The games have a lot of misleading patterns that will overwhelm people who don't take a closer look at how they work, but really they are quite slow and deliberate.

I liked Haruhi enough to put a coded reference to it in the song titles of my last album and still consider it one of the best anime series I've ever seen.

Anyway, that is how the cultural zeitgeist works. Few things truly stand the test of time.

I find it interesting that two of your apparent favourite anime series revolve around a teenage girl who is unwittingly (functionally speaking) God.

Oh, wow, then you are smaller.

Not in weight, but my grandmother is extremely thin.

the Haruhi series came out several years ago

back then, it was all the rage
    it, and lucky star

i remember being on TVT in 2009, and no one could shut up about it

    then, some time passed

a few years later, there was an IRC conversation where someone expressed the sentiment of barely even remembering that Haruhi was ever a thing

oddly, in the meantime, i went from resenting it being everywhere to gradually learning more about the series and getting the feeling that it might actually be a series with interesting characterization and character development and drama

and maybe i feel a little bad that people seem to have forgotten it and are now all about attack on titan and kill la kill
(seriously you people speak so highly of stuff being life-changing then just put stuff down like it never affected your lives)
(then again it's not like this doesn't happen to a lot of things in meatspace, from career choices to entire towns...)

so yeah i just added haruhi to my to-watch list on MAL.

...y'know, that list that has like, 72 items now.  i haven't sorted them.

You do realize that after a while, you stop finding things to talk about?

There are works that really, deeply affected me, and they still pop in my mind to this day. But I won't talk about it with anybody, because there's nothing left to talk about, so it just occupies a comforting space in my head. And it becomes deeply personal.

Honestly, Haruhi never sounded like my thing. I've been mildly curious about it for its structure and style, but the plot and characters aren't really my bag. I mean, granted, Kill la Kill shouldn't have been my kind of thing, but past the panache and wacky high-jinks there are a lot of things to like about it.

And yes, I just spelled high-jinks the old fashioned way. COME AT ME, BRO.

Oh! That makes a lot more sense, actually.

Lain is more like... the classic Jewish and Orthodox mystical conceptions of God. She is all things to all people and yet one thing at the same time. Or even the Gnostic True God to Eiri's Demiurge.

Those would be spoilers if that show weren't... what it is.

Anyway remember when every WMG page had to have a Haruhi theory, a Time Lord theory, and a Shinji theory?

Those were the days, Myr, those were good days.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
I remember the first two, but I don't remember Shinji theories.

Also, I'm reminded of that one page devoted to the theory that every television show ever created was a 10-year-old autistic boy's daydream because of the bizarre twist ending of St. Elsewhere. Yes, I know that was a thing long before TVT, but still.

I notice they made a point to show the adults leaving the room before the babies talk, implying that the babies really can speak and they're keeping it "secret"

I'm glad they dropped that angle for the series proper, because it doesn't really make sense
  • My dreams exceed my real life
That was created to illustrate how ridiculous comic continuity was by illustrating what it would be like if TV followed it.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
In the Zookeeper, it was shown that animals can talk, but choose not to reveal it to humans so they don't get freaked out.

I assume people do not eat or perform experiments on animals in this world.

In retrospect, all the parents in Rugrats were parodies of yuppies.

I liked early, to early-mid Rugrats.

It was a big influence on me, as young-un.
