i realized that the Top Floor theme in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow would be perfect for an optional hell area a la El Infierno in Guacamelee, in a Castlevania game
Guacamelee is a metroidvania/beat em up that came out last year. One of those low-key games that most people who played it liked a lot but not a lot of people seem to have played it.
Also got criticized because there were drawings of reddit memes on the walls in some places, because people are stupid and think that that's a thing that matters when talking about a game.

I'm reminded of the time the Homestuck fandom flipped their collective lid because Dirk's auto-responder made an "over 9000" joke. Completely ignoring the fact that "loves terrible stuff to the extent that you can't tell if he's ironic or sincere" is half of his characterization.
Naturally, Hussie responded by working an even dumber "over 9000" reference into a future conversation.
Thesis: You think the meme is the funniest thing ever. You bark like a seal and clap your flippers for every reference to a cake being something other than the honest truth.
Antithesis: If one person tells a joke, it's funny. If ten people retell the joke, not only does it stop being funny, but it rewrites history to erase any trace of comedy the joke ever had. Memes are so powerfully terrible that just one of them can suck all the goodness out of an otherwise competently made story.
Synthesis: Memes are tools that can be used well or badly.
