    Flatware?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
flatware = silverware = table utensils, I think.

I don't think it's bad to buy something used for a lower price. That is part of releasing it on physical media.

"Cutlery", I guess, is the everywhere-but-America term? You know, like, spoons and forks and whatnot.
  • Flatware?

    utensils one eats with

like, you know what i could buy for 40 dollars? 2 games, that's 80, enough to buy all the flatware i'll ever need, or a really nice blanket. 4 games? that's 320 fucking dollars, enough to cover air fare to see my boyfriend, a cool chair, huge-ass art prints, you name it.

man it's really easy to make anything seem stupidly expensive when you use that kind of reasoning.
p much. it seems that my mom's intense frugality genes have finally kicked in lol
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
    Yeah, we call it cutlery.
  • we also call it cutlery most of the time

    I think there's a subtle difference

In that Americans seem more likely to use "cutlery" specifically in reference to knives than, say, forks or spoons
  • also apparently BD has microtransactions or something?

also also there's a Kotaku editorial about something something porn magazines when you search "Bravely Default, used" on google.

wat. wow, maybe I really am a total stranger to current-gen console gaming.

Microtransactions that were blown way out of proportion and are completely unnecessary to beat the game, yes. (You can buy SP drinks that let you pause a battle for 1 turn. You also get SP by just putting the system in sleep mode.)
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.

im gonna restate that seeing that Bravely Default cost 40 bucks caused me to immediately reset my 3DS, put it neatly back in it's box with all the accessories and give it to my little sister

That is definitely a thing I can see you doing.

I do not wear plastic pants.

    Are you sure?

Have you really checked your closet?
    yes.

and I agree that 40 bucks is too much for a game. I will admit to once paying around $70 for Secret of Mana back in the day, however.

Seriously though, I can get a book or a music CD or something for waaaaaaaaaay less than a video game. It just don't make sense to me

    http://www.usgamer.net/articles/why-you-shouldnt-worry-about-bravely-defaults-microtransactions-and-social-features

hmm, microtransactions, as in "people can pay money to circumvent the tedium required to gain a particular edge in the game." A game that is already 40 dollars. I always hated the idea of paying real money for things in a game that you already paid for.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
It's not like the game says "BUY ME NOW BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME".
  • OK if it's the stupid "either spend 90 hours doing this or spend 10 bucks doing it" bullshit I am actually just not going to buy it.

I somehow didn't hear about this, or I forgot about it. Either way, not happening.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
That's not even close to what it is. Did you even read my post?
  • It's not like the game says "BUY ME NOW BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME".

yeah but does it make a difference in your gameplay experience if you don't buy it? Because that matters. A lot.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
This article suggests that the "sleep points" feature is entirely unnecessary, but, it's still saving up 3 "free turns" by either paying money or leaving the game on overnight.
  • That's not even close to what it is. Did you even read my post?

    Yes.
(You can buy SP drinks that let you pause a battle for 1 turn. You also get SP by just putting the system in sleep mode.)
    this sounds pretty significant

Not in the slightest. I beat the entire game on hard mode without ever activating Bravely Second. A single turn is barely relevant in Bravely Default.
  • man now i feel hella vindicated
  • Not in the slightest. I beat the entire game on hard mode without ever activating Bravely Second.

Yeah but aren't you like, good, at RPGs? I'm not.

btw I am probably going to play this game at some point because it looks awesome.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
whenever I have a 3DS, anyway, which is like, not any time soon.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
I am not good at games.
  • Current CNN news headline: "Hipster becomes Church's main attraction"

    what is life?

I am not good at games.

    alright then

I still think it's stupid that they even let you do it though, it's not like this is Path of Exile where the game is free to begin with.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
You'll be leaving your system in sleep mode for ages anyway, since the town doesn't build if you turn off the game.
  • what the fuck why

that is a baffling design decision
  • (*vindication intensifies*)

It seems like the village-building is just a silly mini-game/side-quest thing.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.

To stop people cheating it by turning the system clock forward, presumably.

    that is so dumb
  • on the subject of stupid game practices for the PC, why does steam keep promoting ORION: Dino Horde?
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
*plays fangames and hacks and stuff that are free*

i'm wondering at what point i decided "hey, i should use windows 8.1 as my primary operating system!"
  • I don't like that there's Dark Souls 2 DLC coming out not because I dislike Dark Souls 2 but because it means people are going to be obnoxious about the textures again.
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Ugh, 2.6 gig FFXIV patch. I just want to be a purple haired spellslinging catgirl with a shining green pet, game. :<

From a Debian security notice I got this morning:

CVE-2014-3153 Pinkie Pie discovered an issue in the futex subsystem that allows a local user to gain ring 0 control via the futex syscall. An unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the kernel (resulting in denial of service) or for privilege escalation.

Pinkie Pie is a Linux geek? Who knew?

As a fun side note, a major character from Shadowrun was based on Captain Crunch. (The hacker, that is.)
