it's not that there is anything particularly sensitive going on, it's just that there are a fair number of users here who are conversing about things, and lots of shitposting tends to be disruptive of that
i'm not actually familiar with the term "fag hag" so i googled it and read off the first search result and so i put in both possibilities (since "dirtiness" is always a possibility when dealing with topics related to sexuality)
though that's generally true of my shitposting anyway, i prefer to use a "clean" implication/meaning even when a dirty one exists, especially if people are expecting the dirty one
i guess it's kinda like, i used to see the trash heap (or at least the original one) as basically the place where people could let loose and ignore social standards and stuff (provided not crossing a moral event horizon) so they could get their crazy on
while being well-behaved in the rest of the TVT forum
it's like, outside of the original heap, people have to stay on topic, word things carefully so that they're making points clearly and convincingly and don't leave any logic holes for others to poke through or leave anything that people might misunderstand for being offensive or bigoted or insulting, and be sure to read what other people have said or else be regarded as rude for butting in with no context, etc.
and the trash heap would be a place where you could do whatever you wanted (up to a certain and very lax point) -- cite memes like crazy! mock people's posts (as long as it's done in jest)! snippy one-word responses only because they're funny! story ideas! quick questions! conversation! post flame bait! argue badly! have a flame war (as long as it doesn't escape the confines of this quarntine)! virtually trash the place!
well, this place isn't just one thread. it's a full forum, with some threads being more shitposty than others
because a forum with ALL SHITPOSTING ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE wouldn't really be able to function
so we have some threads that are more serious, some that are more shitposty, and the main thread, which is conversational with some shitposting accepted, depending on what's going on in the thread at any given time.
This is a general thread, so like Yon Assassin mentioned, it has a lot to do with what's actually going at the time. Just because spam posts are allowed here doesn't mean they are always here, and just because we actually have discussions here doesn't mean they are always here. It's just a matter of reading the situation, really.
I made the other thread in sort of a huffy, but now that I've calmed down a bit, I think it might actually be a good thing.
Because this way, this thread can have light shitposting, but the really heavy stuff -- for example, format-breaking (something I forgot earlier but has already shown up in the new thread) -- can actually have a dedicated place for it. (And I'm really, really amused by format breaking, but I quite honestly and genuinely understand how it would be horribly disrupting when people are having an actual conversation.)
I think you just need to understand that since you made the Trash Heap it kind of took on a life of its own, and also that this is not the Trash Heap of the TV Tropes Forum, and has developed its own site culture and conventions in your absence.
