...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through
    (2015 self)
You got the FE-AL beyond the dark horizon, the coarse you take when you percolate; no you're not calciferous when you've got the coniferous; no need to wheedle when you got acidic needles, there's just too many demands for this son of the sands, they've all lost patience with your lack of cations; but you're in the best climate so they're just gonna lime it.

    ...

Okay, it actually is impossible to make a good rap about Spodosols. Darn.

I wish I had the skills to make some sort of Schoolhouse Rock thing.

Stupid school system teaching kids the order of the planets and not teaching them the twelve orders of soils.

Also, oh, evolution, always hogging the spotlight because of controversies and creationism vs. evolution and all that.  Let the Square-Cube law get some spotlight; and biomechanics.

Biomechanics would be awesome to teach young kids, it's hands-on balancing and scale models.  It's like playing with toy dinosaurs with moving joints and getting them to stand up.  Except not the museum model toys, I mean, stuff that actually models the weight distribution on the bones of a dinosaur.  Get some scales, and show the kids how much weight of an Apatosaurus is supported by front legs and how much is supported by back legs.

Show the kids different sauropods and compare leg thicknesses and stuffs.  It's kids, getting to play with dinosaurs, and getting to see them fall over.

I don't know how you'd pull off the "making the models run and seeing if they fall over" thing.  Or testing what dinosaurs can gallop and what dinosaurs shuffle.

Because, seriously, what kid doesn't want to see a stegosaurus attempting a handstand?

    I've seen worse than that

Take me to this other rap about Spodosols which is worse than mine. I wish to see such wondrous artistic blahdom.
  • No, you see "faggy" isn't homophobic. South Park has ingeniously repurposed the word. Louis C.K, this generation's Immanuel Kant, has also declared it acceptable for us to use that word, so I'm not being prejudiced.
If you're offended it's your fault.

Ah yeah, Sweden's current king can be traced all the way back in his lineage to 959!  Boo-yeah!\\

And I totally accept any theory that takes this connection back to Ivar Vidfamme and Ingjald Illrade.  Also, Kings Karl one through Six totally existed.

i bet aliroz would really like On Growth and Form then

I've got to check that out.  Thanks!

Honestly, I figured that Twitch was bound to get bought out sooner or later.

I think he underemphasized evolution, but he says he kind of did that as a deliberate counterpoint, so it worked out okay.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    moo
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I started reading Godel Escher Bach again, this time I will finish it I promise
  • I started reading Godel Escher Bach again, this time I will finish it I promise

the first time i tried reading it i stopped because i did not know what a fugue was
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
It kind of explains what it is, though
  • i did not know anything about music theory at all, hence much befuddlement

i guess that's what happens when your mother gives you a bunch of her favorite books for your 12th  (13th? maaaaybe 14th) birthday
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
well, at that age I never would've made it either
  • kill living beings
i didn't know what a fugue was either but i was definitely not 12 jesus
  • now that i think about it it was definitely my 14th
  • i have a hard time organising past events in a non-relative sense for some reason
  • kill living beings
actually i don't think i read it until i was like, 18? I know I bought it myself, from Powell's. The copy is slightly waterlogged

Earlier I'd read Le Ton beau de Marot from my one-room local library which inexplicably had a copy of that but not geb

Godel Escher Bach is good insight porn.

*Lies down and cries, then scrubs skin until it bleeds with wire brush for using the words "insight porn"*
  • The idea is to deliver small chunks of insight that is just counter-intuitive enough to be novel, but not so counter-intuitive that we can't take it at face value. It's a market that's developed in response to the fact that nerds are addicted to feeling like they're just a little bit smarter than everyone else.
    heh.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    dammit nerds

despite the fact that i am (apparently) smarter than a good majority of people i still feel like a complete idiot 70% of the time and that scares me witless

There are always many more things you don't know than things you know.

So you just sort of fake it

    kill living beings
it was a good introduction to formal logic, anyway

also i think it predates whatever that quoted had in mind............

i've since come to disagree with hofstadter like entirely about how minds work so lel

I wonder how insight porn became accepted as an unambiguously good thing.
  • learning new things is just sorta inherently positive in most circumstances i think

unless you're in a Lovecraft story

    It could be.

I never knew what insight porn was, or why I was supposed to care anyway.
  • learning about MTG update: Blue is definitely moving up in terms of colors that i like. blue/black is nice, but i can't seem to quite get the hang of mono-black

But seriously, people who don't end up rambling about high-IQ insight junky communities.

    I know that feel.

I'm having trouble parsing the second half of that sentence.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I confused left and right the other day

    shit happens
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I have a vast, encyclopedic knowledge of 2D shoot-em-up video games. Within this sphere, I rarely feel like I missed anything. Conversely, when people begin to discuss 3D first-person shooters, I have only a passing knowledge of things. That is because everyone has areas of knowledge. Moral of the story: Miko has autism.

I just think of which hand plays the melody on the piano.

But, other than that, I cannot tell left from right.

    left hand = fret hand

    right hand = pick hand
