  • well as i understand it, modernism is associated with breaking away from old traditions, whereas postmodernism is a return to those traditions with a deconstructionist sort of aim.

so to put it in a Hegel-y sort of way, pre-21st century thought would be the thesis, modernism would be the antithesis, and postmodernism would be the synthesis.
  • Combination otherkin exist. Said friend is currently a cat/dog/dragon/anime character mix who used to be a birdcat. I wonder if there's a specific methodology behind what these people "identify" as.

Goddammit, xkcd beats me to everything
  • Postmodernism seems like a pretty meaningless label to me, to be honest. For two reasons: One, that no one can really seem to consistently define it except that it's "after" modernism, two, that eras of art only really make sense in retrospect (and are generally pretty flawed) anyway.

Naney, I'm sorry but I am going to have to strangle you for saying that thesis/antithesis/synthesis is Hegelian terminology.

    It's not you, it's me.

yeah i know that's thesis/antithesis/synthesis isn't Hegel's terminology but that's the person i always see it ascribed to and i cannot for the life of me figure out who to say started that whole thing. if you could tell me who's thought it is exactly so i can stop saying stupid things i would appreciate it.

also how does one pronounce Hegel? does it rhyme with bagel?
  • The thesis/antithesis/synthesis construction proves that the truth is in the middle; therefore, all good Marxists should be centrists.

Sometimes I don't understand how "normal" people function

That sounds like it's me saying "oh look I'm so special and snowflakey" but what I really I kinda mean it the other way around; I feel dysfunctional

I think Fichte first used those words. Kant kind of did it, but didn't use those terms

Why in the world do kids sing, "Cock Robin". That's a creepy song.

Also, I got a book of folk songs from the library today. Apparently, many lumberjack songs can be traced to the middle ages, and many lumberjacks knew hundreds of songs. Not that he'd be able to spell the words.

Why was more effort not made to preserve that? To write down those?

Same with old spirituals. Those were so cool.

Fun fact: one major Italian book of Fables was 60% made up of stories recalled by a single elderly grandmother who never learned to read or write.

In all seriousness, it would probably be easier to list the people on HH who aren't on the spectrum
  • Well, I'm not, I don't think TSP is, I don't think Louie is, I don't think Vriska is.
  • I'm not. 99% certain on that (largely because of a constant state of hypochondria). I don't think Sredni is, but I'm not sure.

    Awesome.

Remember, keeping journals is awesome and everyone should do it. Also, keep records of stuff like this.

Are we counting self-diagnosed, undiagnosed, and diagnosed-by-not-a-qualified-person in this?

Do you ever do a double-take like "wait, what was that sentence I just read?"
    Heh.

That said, yes, it is true that Clay Aiken is indeed running for Congress, in North Carolina's 2nd congressional district, as a Democrat.  It is likely that he will face incumbent Renee Ellmers (R) in the November general election.
