^^ Aliroz, this is one of those times when i know that logically you must be joking, but somehow i'm just not sure.
As for the consumption of feces, I assumed it was an eating problem kind of like bulemia or anorexia. Sorry for taking things too literally and inferring things that weren't true. I sincerely apologize.

Ah. i was right not to assume, then.
For future reference, when most people say 'shitty' in a context in which one would not expect to find actual faeces, they are using the scatological expression dysphemistically in place of the milder 'bad'.
Speaking of FUCK SUBTLETY, I and Byakuren started watching Kill la Kill.
Don't be afraaaaaaaid of the lack of subtlety.
Although there are subtle aspects to Kill la Kill. They're just overshadowed by the... you know... everything that is not those aspects.
Most of the complaints I see about Kill la Kill in some way stem from this really condescending attitude of "Are you seriously implying Kill la Kill is subtle? Seriously? Just accept that it has problems." and it bugs the hell out of me. Really, I see this "argument" made all the time and it never ceases to annoy me.
I don't disagree with this, although I would say that it's just as much these people missing the point of very obvious subtext and symbolism as their missing the subtler touches. They miss the forest for the trees.
Also there's this undercurrent of an obnoxious old guard mentality to it. "We can't be having with these newfangled people who try to be funny when the review! Tut tut!" Especially insulting because there are still plenty of good critics around; TGWTG is just the most visible because it's the most entertaining.
Or rather, that is most focused on a kind of entertainment that a lot of people like, which is the riff-review—quite a different species from, say, the skit or even the critique-with-jokes.
I stopped watching Kill la Kill after the first episode because the scene where Ryuuko got the skimpy chestface suit was too much like a rape scene for my tastes, and the rest of the episode didn't really hook me enough to get around that; in particular, for a series that was built on spectacle, the spectacle was unimpressive to me.
That I didn't do that after the rapey bits in the first episode of Psycho-Pass probably has something to do with how my feelings have changed from late 2012 to late 2013 and something to do with the fact that I have more interest in "Gen Urobuchi + the studio that brought you Ghost in the Shell*" and the aesthetic/thematic consequences of such a crew than I do in "TTGL crew reunion" and respective.
*I need to watch that at some point, probably. whatever. my point here, really, is cyberpunk.

This is quite understandable, and please don't think i'm trying to 'convert' you or anything weird like that, but it might be worth noting that the series is certainly not entirely built on spectacle, and that the first episode is not really indicative of its content.

The first episode is the weakest, that scene in particular being pretty out-of-character for the rest of the show. It gets progressively more fun (and visually impressive) from there on out. Trust me.
^ This is also true. It's got more going on with it than that.
Yeah, at this point I think I might give Kill la Kill a second chance after the hype dies down, which I think is already starting to happen now that the series has actually, you know, ended.
Personally I think the show's pretty weak until....episode 5? I think? There's a point at which it stops being about trying to make some weird point about how girls should love themselves (which isn't a problem inherently, but the moral is delivered badly and heavyhandedly) and starts just being a really good action series.
I'm bad with episode numbers.
I'm not bothered by people not liking Kill la Kill, especially now that it's over until they unveil the bonus episode in September, but the hate train--especially on twitter--got really old after a while. Nothing like getting told in unambiguous terms that you're a terrible person for liking a specific cartoon.
FWIW, I only started really thinking that Kill La Kill was worth it with episode four. Any series that is capable of channeling that sort of madcap cartoony insanity in such a natural way has my attention.
I feel like they're necessary for that reason (eg. "Blumenkranz" playing during the show's very first fight scene, when we see Ryuko wearing Junketsu for the first time), but they're merely tolerable a lot of the time. Though they were sometimes funny as well (PIE DA).
My main issue with KLK was how the story started to fall apart during the second half. You had stuff like Ryuko learning to control her anger via liberal amounts of body horror, but then OOPS NOPE FORGOT THAT BIT BETTER GO RUNNING INTO A DEATH TRAP ALONE. Or the fact that she managed to get brainwashed not once, but twice. Or the complete failure to adhere to Chekhov's gun with the life fiber bullet.
The other thing that will probably have to happen before I even think about watching Kill la Kill, though, is the ending of Kamen Rider Gaim. That show's taking up most of my media-watching and media-thinking-about time.
You wouldn't think a show about fruit-themed samurai* would be so amazing, but here we are.
nah I probably listen to less, there's a reason I mostly shut up after music became the topic of discussion aside from a question about John Lennon and a subtle mockery of 4channish music elitism.

This is widely considered discredited since Professor De Selby's dissertation on the subject.
That's true.
Here's some drama high enough to be seen from 440 miles away.

Thanks, Tachyon.
i was actually under the impression that your use of 'soapy' was a jocular reference to the practice.
Wait, I think I got my punchlines crossed.
