i have a feeling that i have a less negative opinion of youtube comments because i haven't seen as many bad ones and i haven't seen as many bad ones because i haven't really watched many of the videos that people watch en masse
or at least, when i do, i tend not to look at the comments like, not really comment-worthy when i watch a fail video or a cop car chase video so since i don't have anything to say, i don't look at the comments either
on the other hand if someone makes a gameplay vid and uses some external music in it and doesn't label it in the description then someone might have commented on that that would be a reason to check the comments
political vids i rarely, rarely ever watch on youtube political vids are frequently unreliable political ads have learned to disable comments
Apparently people are getting mad because the Homestuck We Love Fine contest isn't giving winning entrants a cut of the profits from the shirts.
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
Tumblr, once again failing to understand the subtleties of copyright law, or any of copyright law for that matter. Or how contests work. Or anything aside from GRRRR RAAAH MUST BE OUTRAGED ALL THE TIME
it's kinda odd how i'm a politics person but not an issues person
most people get into politics because of the issues
but i don't like dealing with the issues since they are often endless arguments with no good way to determine truth or optimality unless people want to work together, and when people "talk politics" they rarely are inclined to try to find consensus solutions
it seems more interesting to think of politics as a strategy game, either with partisanship or ideology/issue-positions as the objective

Don't they waive their rights to profit participation?
i mean like if i were an artist i would never submit my art to such a contest because not getting a portion of the profit on every shirt is total bullshit, and i think it would be a good idea to encourage others not to do so as well.
On the other hand there are very valid concerns (TIL that having a DeviantArt account requires you to allow DA to sell your work to third parties royalty-free), on the other hand, I have been accused of theft when telling people I've shown their pictures to other people.

that doesn't seem like split feelings so much as it does reasonable feelings
like saying that showing someone someone elses art is theft is patently absurd no doubt about it, whereas DA selling your art to hot topic or some shit is obviously, for a lack of a better word, abusive.
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
*downloads and prints copies of all the gay furry inflation fetish MS Paint art on DA and posts it on the walls all over her workplace* HAHAHAHAHA I am stealing ART >8D

But like
it's a contest
If it were a commission or a start of some sort of partnership I'd understand the indignation but it's a competition with very broad standards that has been opened to the public, and as it stands it seems entirely reasonable to "just" award 2500 dollars and recognition.

eh, design contests in general are kind of a pernicious thing because they crowd out actual paid work
but what pumpkin is still a pretty small indie outfit, I'm pretty sure, and they aren't going to have Major Entertainment Company money.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Art theft is a hugely garbage thing to do. And it's mostly because the world believes that what you're doing is worthless, while actively trying to consume and use it without paying.

I don't like it when they get into more serious topics but it's otherwise a pretty good show.
