i have a feeling that i have a less negative opinion of youtube comments because i haven't seen as many bad ones and i haven't seen as many bad ones because i haven't really watched many of the videos that people watch en masse

or at least, when i do, i tend not to look at the comments
like, not really comment-worthy when i watch a fail video or a cop car chase video
so since i don't have anything to say, i don't look at the comments either

on the other hand if someone makes a gameplay vid and uses some external music in it and doesn't label it in the description then someone might have commented on that
that would be a reason to check the comments

political vids i rarely, rarely ever watch on youtube
    political vids are frequently unreliable
political ads have learned to disable comments

    it's not a bad series.

I don't like it when they get into more serious topics but it's otherwise a pretty good show.
  • Apparently people are getting mad because the Homestuck We Love Fine contest isn't giving winning entrants a cut of the profits from the shirts.

    siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

Tumblr, once again failing to understand the subtleties of copyright law, or any of copyright law for that matter. Or how contests work. Or anything aside from GRRRR RAAAH MUST BE OUTRAGED ALL THE TIME

I think that punk and metal videos, in particular, get all the really nasty white supremacists for some reason.
  • happy socks are really high quality + they tend to have them for reasonable prices at TJ Maxx and Marshalls sometimes.

OOOHHH that reminds me i should go to one of those places and pick up some cute boxer-briefs before i go to visit vash next month >w>

    :D
  • i hate welovefine because their shirts are overly slim fitting

XL is too baggy in the shoulders for me while L is too tight in the stomach
  • See like that's an actual reason and I don't fault you for it.

The anti art theft brigade on Tumblr just seems kind of asinine to me.
  • so no matter what size i get it looks sloppy and that is not ok

it's kinda odd how i'm a politics person but not an issues person

most people get into politics because of the issues

but i don't like dealing with the issues since they are often endless arguments with no good way to determine truth or optimality unless people want to work together, and when people "talk politics" they rarely are inclined to try to find consensus solutions

it seems more interesting to think of politics as a strategy game, either with partisanship or ideology/issue-positions as the objective

Don't they waive their rights to profit participation?
  • But that's wroooong because it's myyyyy art and I worked sooooo hard on it
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
  • The sadness will last forever.
I just heard a gunshot near my house.....I'm pretty sure somebody had a gun....

the anti art-theft brigade gets my sympathy even if they are really overly indignant

lots of times small artists get screwed over really hard without them realizing it
  • i mean like if i were an artist i would never submit my art to such a contest because not getting a portion of the profit on every shirt is total bullshit, and i think it would be a good idea to encourage others not to do so as well.
  • The sadness will last forever.
If a burglar broke into the house...I wouldn't know what to do.
  • My feelings on the matter are split.

On the other hand there are very valid concerns (TIL that having a DeviantArt account requires you to allow DA to sell your work to third parties royalty-free), on the other hand, I have been accused of theft when telling people I've shown their pictures to other people.

that doesn't seem like split feelings so much as it does reasonable feelings

like saying that showing someone someone elses art is theft is patently absurd no doubt about it, whereas DA selling your art to hot topic or some shit is obviously, for a lack of a better word, abusive.

Art theft is hacky and tacky and I will never do it
  • the only time when stealing art is ok is when you are Her Holiness BitMonica XVI

wait is that a $5 t-shirt?  i'll take almost any shirt at that price!

also i want this mug: http://plamoya.com/en/arpeggio-of-blue-steel-ars-nova-i401-stainless-mug-cup-p-92999.html

    But like

    it's a contest

If it were a commission or a start of some sort of partnership I'd understand the indignation but it's a competition with very broad standards that has been opened to the public, and as it stands it seems entirely reasonable to "just" award 2500 dollars and recognition.
  • im frustrated with my wardrobe

like i can dress ok with the clothes that i've got

but i like bright, colourful, playful sorts of things

and those things seem to be hard to thrift because they are very noticeable on the shelf and they get scooped up right away

i just wanna be hella gay is that too much to ask
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    being colorful is great

    ...I have no other advice

eh, design contests in general are kind of a pernicious thing because they crowd out actual paid work

but what pumpkin is still a pretty small indie outfit, I'm pretty sure, and they aren't going to have Major Entertainment Company money.

I just worry that you're getting back up to the point where you rub up against this thread until you orgasm
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    this thread is so sexay
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Art theft is a hugely garbage thing to do. And it's mostly because the world believes that what you're doing is worthless, while actively trying to consume and use it without paying.

As for the contest, read the fine print, folks.
