Now: Why does GDN_Activity have over a million rows, and come out to over 200 MB of SQL? Because it's a log of everything that has ever happened on the site. Not comment bodies, of course, but just about evrything else "So-and-so posted to a thread! Someone wrote on someone else's wall!" Things like that.

I've been told that it can be purged if the past history isn't important.
Is THAT why the Activity page seems to load more slowly than any other page?
No, we need to keep that!  It's awesome and incredible!  A perfect record of activity!

    Where is that from?
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
It's from Todd in the Shadows' review of "Cooler Than Me" by Mike Posner.

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
And now I remember that line, and the context.

That song is very bland and nonsensical.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I'm also amused by the fact that the title track on Miley's The Time of Our Lives EP was co-written by, among other people, Ke$ha and her mom Pebe.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
And, wait, what? Hannah's theme song was co-written by Robbie Nevil, of all people. This guy:

  • I have also procured Chain of Memories.

It's kind of weird that, given the tone of the rest of the series, that this game seems to elect to view the creations of Sora's memories as not being real. Dunno if it'll stick with it, but I find it more interesting.

And then I saw "Don't Wanna Fall in Love" by Jane Child on the "recommended videos" bar when I played that, and remembered that I really want a better MIDI controller. The Casio works, but it's huge and doesn't have pitch or mod wheels (which you kind of need to play certain things).

Also I really don't like James Holmes, but you could probably guess that

Where does the 2013 Boston Marathon fit into all this?

I think my favorite Boston Marathon conspiracy theory post was the one who claimed the government MUST have been in on it because omg they had ambulances lined up by the finish line BEFORE the bombs went off!
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Which, of course, is standard policy for big events like that. I know NASCAR races have medical staff at the ready on the infield at all times, and most professional sporting events have something similar.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
People like conspiracy theories because they mean that things are less random. It's like religious fundamentalism in that way, particularly doctrines preoccupied with fate: Such things must happen for a reason. There is a greater plan. Everything is connected and those who cannot see it are blind and must be healed with divine love and wisdom.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
if one is building a castle, it probably makes more sense to build it out of many stone blocks than to find one big humongous stone block and carve it into the shape of a castle
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
True point. But the kind of people who gravitate towards cults and conspiracies tend to be on the monomaniacal side.

You know, I saw a taxi the other day that was obviously a retired police car

    Which isn't that unusual

Except it still had the damn push bar on the front!

Why would they keep that on the car when they sold it...?

It works well as a metaphor for that kind of thinking, though, which is actually really funny.

There is a massive complex hewn out of caves and huge stalactites and stalagmites in the thing I'm working on and, incidentally, the little forum RP I am running on and off here...

The x-axis is clearly in months, although I am less sure about the y-axis units. I am not a great affection-scientist.

To be honest, I never understood those freeway patrol cars

Because they're the exact same livery as all of Columbus's other police cars, but with "FREEWAY PATROL" on the back instead of "POLICE"

And I'm not sure why that's a necessary distinction to show to the public...if you encounter a police officer in their cruiser, is which particular subdivision of the police department they work for really going to be of significance to you?

You know what sucks? Dreaming about work.

Like, at least when I'm actually at work, I get paid for it.

But dreaming about work is just a waste of a perfectly good dream.
