i feel sad that the Big Book of Heapisms is no more

and more sad that Miko wanted it vaporized

i like threads like that, they make me feel more welcome and less out of the loop

that whole thing kinda confused me tbh

and i'm not sure why it actually was done away with?

I asked for it locked because I did not feel like starting drama.
  • why was it starting drama

    i am moderately confused

because people don't like old memories dredged up, i guess

except people like me who find nostalgia and personal histories comforting
  • Aliroz necro'd the thread on an Alirozic whim, Miko started complaining about it, and I was fairly certain it was just going to spiral into a malaise of bleh unless I asked for the thread closed.

Short version: just wasn't worth the potential trouble.
  • so basically because this site is stupid and annoying

    gotcha

  • Failed to load page content

  • It really is kind of annoying that I now have to factor in "potential drama" when deciding whether or not to make a thread here, that wasn't the case until fairly recently.

I suppose it just comes with the territory of a place being around for a certain amount of time.

life is too short for forum drama
  • alternately you can just flag posts when people say stupid things in response to an entirely reasonable thread

    tru
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

I find nostalgia comforting too, but honestly I feel weird when old things of mine get necro'd, so...

  • aom is way less MRA-y than you would think it would be based on the site name
  • alternately you can just flag posts when people say stupid things in response to an entirely reasonable thread

I have done that in the past but it's not like the mods are always here, plus, why cause an easily-preventable problem, really.

Another factor is that I just don't care about that thread anymore, if someone wants to make another thread in that vein go for it, I just won't be participating.

indeed, or i wouldn't have linked it

it can be a bit silly at times, but frankly it's miles better than any site with a name like that has any right to be
  • I would admittedly not willingly ever click on a link I realized contained the URL "artofmanliness.com".

That article is probably great but it doesn't really apply to me. I only worldbuild, I'm not a writer.

This happened today and it made me smile.

    NL is a cool person.

it kinda does now that you mention it

    however,

that is the sound a giant squid makes according to The Upside-Down Show.

said show being a children's program that I do not believe has been on the air for a number of years now.

ultimately the library, but i need to clean up here first or people will be mad at me

    ciao
  • i had never heard of that show until just now

...man i really want to watch Digimon.

Wasn't The Upside-Down Show on Noggin?
  • As far as I know, it only ever aired on the Noggin Network, which was a semi-educational, ad-free paid network we used to get in the days when my family was upper middle class and could afford satellite TV. Their mascot was a Moose and his pet bird.

They actually had a few good shows (the aforementioned Upside-Down Show, Jack's Big Music Show, which introduced me to zydeco, and Oobi, which was a puppet show without any puppets), although they also had some crap, as tends to happen.

It was less something I watched and more something my brothers watched while I tended to just sort of be in the same room with them. I think I remember it better than they do though.

    Moose A. Moose and Zee?

I admit, I'm a bit miffed that when the channel became Nick Jr., they didn't replace them with Face.
  • i remember being a middle class person vaguely
  • Yes.

The Upside-Down Show was actually legitimately funny in a way I feel most people can appreciate regardless of age.
You were on the DARK SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE OF THE MOOOOOOON

looking for a GUY SEEEEEEEELLING CHEEEEEEEEESE
  • i remember being a middle class person vaguely

My family has sort of gradually slid down the class funnel as my life has gone on.

We kinda hit rock bottom late last year when we were unable to afford kerosene for our heater. I think we're finally starting to work our way back up.

I'm mostly just glad we didn't have to split up the household like my mom was afraid we would.

Speaking of family, fuck, I still haven't e-mailed my grandma Auman. I have to remember to do that.
  • my family has kinda gone down the tubes due to mom's unemployment and her drinking that she thankfully seems to be over at last and also dad leaving.

her and my dad have a super weird relationship.
  • My dad....is somewhere in Florida still, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get along with my father. He's really big into cars, NASCAR, and racing in general (he used to race for some indie league, in fact), and really likes country music.

I think the only thing I've really inherited from him is a love of Jimmy Buffet. Even then I'm pretty sure he's more into Buffet's later period where he got really cheesy, as opposed to the earlier, slightly less tourist-pandery stuff.

My stepdad....we had some good times together, but ultimately dude was a huge douche to my mom, and I can't forgive him for that on a person-to-person level much as I try. I can fake it and be polite, but I will never enjoy hanging out with him or anything like that ever.
  • I inherited many more physical things from my stepdad though.

Dude left behind his original Xbox (it's modded!), a pair of slippers that I've since lost, several coats, a bunch of blank CDs, his music collection, including such gems as N*SYNC's first album (which he tried to claim was my mom's), a compilation of WWE Wrestling themes, and the Men in Black soundtrack, some old computer games....
  • my dad would definitely qualify as a hipster if he wasn't 50 years old

also he has severe emotional issues

of the sort where you are "taken aback" when your wife asks for a divorce even though you have been separated for about 8 years and you are currently living with another woman

    like

    ????

also he has an uncanny ability to justify literally anything he wants to do to himself. ranging from petty theft to... much, much worse.

he is a pleasant enough person to interact with though and he genuinely loves me

I know, I am like the buzzing mosquito of this forum who likes to drink your blood and make your skin itch and then fly away. Relatedly, I think I will not argue about "age of consent," but I think that children are about 100x smarter than adults think, and that adults are about 100x dumber than children think.

Miko's mood has four settings: "sad," "drunk," "horny," and "angry." oh well.

It's not like I don't do a full time job that "contributes to society" and do nice things for people and support my friends.

If I bitched about reviving a thread from 2012, it's because you guys were mean as hell in 2012.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
and I was still more of an obnoxious little bitch frustrated by the fact that people don't just smile and get along
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
w/e that is how the world is. you have to earn people being nice to you, by showing them that it isn't worth the trouble to hurt you.

literally i would kill myself if pyridrym didnt materialize out of the aether

sorry i didnt kill myself, i know this forum is nicer when the bad posters are gone

going to work now, then i will come home and try to read and fall asleep instead
