  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I think that a dissatisfaction with one's physical appearance is a common human trait, regardless of gender or race.

I also agree it's unfortunate that philosophical fiction seems to have declined.
  • i need some light brown leather shoes and non-jeans pants (*some sturdy olive drab and cream chinos would be ideal*)

the reason i don't have either of those things is because good pants and leather shoes are really hard to thrift for >_>

but then i think i will be content clothing-wise for quite some time
  • good pants... are really hard to thrift for >_>

    fuckin amen

my bf found a sweet pair of brown leather k shoes in a charity shop tho
  • fun fact: thrift store pants are legally required to have more pleats than an accordion file

in my experience good shoes only end up in thrift stores when they are literally irreparable i.e. there are cracks in the upper

i did thrift myself a nice pair of tassel loafers but those aren't very versatile, and i got a pair of suede monkstraps but they're a deep chocolate brown that doesn't work with jeans...

Yon Assassin, you've mentioned tailoring a bunch of times here, and i have to ask

is this something you often do?  get clothes tailored to fit?

    and isn't that hideously expensive?
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

However, with the aforementioned olive drab, I think that those could look quite nice.

Getting expensive clothes bought cheap tailored to fit is far, far less expensive than buying those clothes at market price. Thrift-shop in a good neighbourhood and you can get really high-end clothing at absolutely ludicrous reductions; paying to get such bargain items tailored is an investment, not an unnecessary expenditure.

Seriously, my mom used to go into thrift stores on Rittenhouse Square and Walnut Street and find fitted Armani suits and vintage Chanel on the racks. The tailor is your friend.
  • generally i avoid buying things i will have to get tailored unless i really, really like them. and depending on what's needed it costs 10-20 bucks, skewing low. (*it cost me 35 bucks to get my corduroy blazer's sleeves shortened, which is one of the more expensive sorts of alterations to do*)

and sometimes i can ask my mom to hem some pants if she's not busy.
  • so yes altogether including tailoring i can get a very well fitting shirt for 15-25 bucks, much less than you would pay for an ok-fitting shirt in the store.
  • When did Tumblr decide that Shrek was a punchline, though

well he found a really nice pair of black ones before the brown ones, he bought them and they fell apart immediately. lol
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
that's less expensive than i imagined

forgive my ignorance, i'm kind of new to thinking about this

i tend to just buy whatever fits

and i use the term 'fit' fairly loosely

when they realised that Shrek is a very common shared experience and it is of less-than-stellar quality.

Man, Stan looks like a little shit in that

    Shrek was a fantastic movie

or so i thought at the time... i'm kind of scared to watch it again now in case it's not as good as i remember

Terrifying thought: a POP Station-style device that plays a Flappy Bird ripoff
  • Shrek was a fun movie, and fairly unique. Certainly not a walking punchline on the level of, say, Johnny Test.

Shrek, the first one at least, actually seems to be among DWA's better works

It's kind of a pity that when people think of DWA they think of Shrek overload and junk like Shark Tale

How to Train Your Dragon is probably the best DWA movie i have seen

Same. It was a really fun film to actually watch in a theatre.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I sometimes wish I had done so in a theater

I want to see its sequel in the theater though

    DO EET.

Seriously, it's the best thing that that company has done in a long time by a long margin and I really liked it a lot.
  • i really liked the HTTYD books

i don't feel compelled to watch the films though

The movies really have little to do with the source material beyond the name...this doesn't stop the first movie, at least, from being very well-liked

(it has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, a DreamWorks Animation movie with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes)

    Fine?
Really? Has anyone actually seen a KIDS show? Adventure Time and
Regular Show are not kid shows, hell, I don't even consider them shows,
their time wasters in my mind, whatever happened to real kid shows?
Hmm??? Like Codename Kids Next Door, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends,
hell, I'd rather watch a marathon of blues clues, a show for freaking
babies, than crap like Adventure Time!

The type of pointless snob-drama that happens because of music makes me want to just avoid the music world.
  • i didn't like regular show much when i watched it.

i mean i kinda liked it but i don't think i'll pursue it further

Yes. And apparently the original author rather liked the film despite their tenuous connection to the books.

Blue's Clues is a really good show for babies

Also, few seem to notice that the art styles of Codename: Kids Next Door and Pepper Ann are not far removed from each other, probably because Disney has made most forget about Pepper Ann
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Maybe I am missing something but how can you be older than 17 and still think music appreciation (or lack thereof) is a good reason to mock people and exclude them? How can you even think that having vast music knowledge and the "correct" opinions on it makes you a good person? It confuses me. I like when music is pretty or fun or atmospheric.

    ...

seriously have you considered that maaaybe most people have forgotten pepper ann because it wasn't very memorable?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
pretty much none of the older Disney cartoons are well-remembered these days

it may well be that they're not very memorable, but their lack of exposure in recent years doesn't help either

you make it sound like people forgetting unremarkable cartoons is some sort of great tragedy that must be rectified.

Like omg, how is it better than when I used to wear shirts with bands I liked and other people would question my "right" to wear such a shirt because I wasn't "cool" enough to listen to such a band and that made me a poseur. Either that or like, insulting me and calling me a mainstream sheep because of my shirt. Or thinking that my liking music no one gives a shit about makes me a "showoff" or whatever. whatever. I will continue to immerse myself in the things I enjoy and laugh at the babies of the world.

Spoilers and speculation for How To Train Your Dragon (book and movie)
    Spoiler:
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is the main character of the books.  The main character of the movies is just called Hiccup.  By the time of the books, dragon riding has become an established tradition.  My theory is that How To Train Your Dragon (Movie) is about Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the First; and that Snoutlout, Fishlegs, Stoick, and such are passed down in families sometimes through generations, naming kids after their great-grandparents or something. [/spoilers]
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
more accurately, Disney have ensured that nobody who wasn't particularly interested in Pepper Ann will remember it, have done their best to prevent those who enjoyed it from re-experiencing it, and have not made it available to people who didn't watch it when it came out

They don't have a memory erasure beam.  I'd remember something like that.
