    our old cats were tortoiseshells

    that's not a breed, though, it's a coat colour
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Torties do seem to share certain personality traits, though, maybe because the pattern only turns up in certain breeds and piggybacks on other genetic markers.

I can tell a few cat breeds apart on sight, but not as many as I can dogs.
  • My mom just flipped the fuck out because I left my computer at my friend's house.

I can't believe I had the gall to get sick and be unable to retrieve it. The nerve of me.

I can tell a few cat breeds apart on sight, but not as many as I can dogs.

Our oldest cat, Scholly, was very bold, usually calm, and extremely affectionate.

Our younger cat, her daughter, Chiaro, was extremely timid, would scratch if touched, and was completely incapable of hunting.

Their coat colours were quite different, though both were tortoiseshell.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
They seem like an interesting pair.

    They were.

i miss them.  We haven't had any pets since.
  • Shaggie in recent years has turned into a bristling ball of malice, which is a shame because she used to be such a gentle cat. Ebony hides all the time now, which is also a shame for similar reasons.

These are both indirectly the fault of my stepdad. :/

    That's very sad.

    Explanation:
    Spoiler:
Ice cream sales and teen vandalism are both high in the summer time, but for different reasons. Ice cream because it's hot and vandalism because kids are out of school.

At least, I think that's what they were getting at.
  • That's what I picked, I just thought the question was amusing.
  • edited 2014-03-07 19:40:33

C is correct under the basis of correlation != causation

(I think I got that same question when I took a sociology class)

Duuuude, that's not a cathedral with a dome attached so much as it is a dome with a cathedral attached.

Craaaaap, guys, that's gotta be, like, the biggest dome in the world.

Wait, I'm not sure "duomo" equals dome.

When you were a kid, did you keep your VCR hooked up to channel 3 or channel 4?

Choose wisely, this says a lot about your personality!

    Channel three, of course.

A large number of DSO song titles would also, with minimal alteration, make great Jaeger names.

We had to use channel 3 for VCRs and such here, because WCMH was broadcasting on channel 4

In Cleveland the opposite was true; they had WKYC on channel 3 so their VCRs and video games had to use channel 4

It's from the same root as "domicile," apparently; it comes from a Latin phrase meaning "house of God."

We always used channel 3 here because channel 4 was and is WRC-TV. Even in Charlottesville and Palmyra, where WRC-TV wasn't available and WHSV-TV (the nearest channel 3) was a hard catch, we still used channel 3 out of habit.

I really need to hear the new These New Puritans album at some point. It's generally regarded as their best album yet, and given that their previous two LPs were both pretty interesting and their second in particular was really good...

    As for the rest...

Iceage are good fun but took awhile to grow on me. Fuck Buttons have great synth timbres but I'm on the fence about their writing. Phosphorescent's stuff bores me. Dirty Beaches are slightly more interesting, if only for their "dead man singing" vibes somewhere between Alan Vega and early Jandek. Savages are great fun and their lyrics are interesting but they are a bit too retro and straightforward for me. OPN is cool, although as Sunny said, his non-music content is probably more interesting. The Haxan Cloak works with cool people, but I'm not terribly familiar with his own work. The Youth Lagoon's guy voice rubs me the wrong way and his songwriting is merely OK but he is an interesting producer at the very least. That Deafheaven LP was enjoyable. Waxahatchee are all right. Bill Callahan has skills but I don't think he's my thing.

I can't say much about the others, really.

VCRs using channel 3 made Philadelphia's KYW-TV throw me for a loop once

Though I've never been to Philadelphia
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I wonder if Philadelphians used channel 4 for their VCRs (I think New York's WNBC could be picked up well in portions of the market)
  •  The Haxan Cloak works with cool people, but I'm not terribly familiar with his own work.
    same
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I have heard one or two tracks and he seems to make really solid dark ambient-ish stuff, but that's not much to go on.

    Same with Waxahatchee, really...
  • I'm gonna work on some stuff with gating percussion more precisely tonight.

She offers you the ring of serpents and she offers you her hand. It's not like love or friendship. It's something hidden.
  • I, on the other hand, am going to continue to flail about hopelessly in the digital wasteland of FL Studio.
  • also the hype deafheaven in general gets is kinda weird

like, they aren't bad or anything, but they're not exceptional, and they don't seem particularly accessible.

but they ended up on like 5 billion end-of-year lists as one of the token accessible metal albums
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

I, on the other hand, am going to continue to flail about hopelessly in the digital wasteland of FL Studio.

I would love to use FL Studio. From what I've seen it's a lot like what Garageband 5 would be if it had better plugin synth support.

Of course, I am going to be using Logic Pro 7 soon, which is like that on steroids, so I am content with what I have.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, you wear Versace but you look like a dirty bird. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, even the paparazzi think you're quite absurd.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.

Savages are great fun and their lyrics are interesting but they are a bit too retro and straightforward for me.

I've listened to a few tracks from Savages, but I still need to get the full LP from them. I get the feeling I'd love it. Correct me if you think I'm wrong.

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Go for it. It's a really solid LP.

Really, my only qualms are that I really think that they could push the envelope further. They are a tight, sharp, skilled, dynamic band with a good ear for melody and production and are apparently a treat live; but at the same time, they could be more than that, a real force of nature, something brutal and alien yet impeccably groovy and frequently tender and spooky. Maybe their next album will see them reaching more, y'know?
  • I really dislike "it doesn't push the envelope enough" and similar as criticisms, because they sort of imply that there is no value in working within confines.

At least I feel they do.

I don't know anything about Savages, you just reminded me of the fact that I hear that particular point branded a knock against something all the time, and I just don't get it.
