A: Hellsing, where a major (female) character is called Sir Integra Hellsing.
B: Nanoha, where the Engrish speaking weapon Bardiche (who, oddly enough, is voiced by a native English speaker) refers to his wielder, Fate Testarossa, as Sir.
On the note of weird translations, the spell Merton from FFVI always makes me think that your team is summoning Paul Merton to perform an improv act.
When I think of Sean Connery these days, I think of the perverted, half-senile parody of him from SNL.
I used to think people name-dropping tropes was so cool, but really, it's not. Lampshading something properly means pointing it out , then moving on...something like "Isn't it odd how we keep showing up in this situation again and again?", but not "OMG GIAZ THIS IS SO TOTALLY A HUB CAVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT SEE WHUT I DID THURR??!?!"
Same with trying to build a story from a prescribed list of tropes; sometimes it can work well (like with Miami Vice and its infamous "MTV cops" pitch), but otherwise you potentially have a Seltzer and Friedman comedy in the making (again, "OMG GAIZ SEE WUT I DID THURR" but with a "LOLOLOLOLOL" tacked on).
And I think the "gotta catch 'em all" attitude of TVT doesn't help, since it implies that all tropes are compatible with each other; anyone who's ever done any cooking knows that certain ingredients don't go well together, and won't taste right or be nutritious (or can even be poisonous) if not prepared correctly. It makes sense if you're building a catalog, but it's not a good thing for a story unless, of course, you're going for Excel Saga-esque self-parody.

Bluh
Assassin poems, Poems that shoot
guns. Poems that wrestle cops into alleys
and take their weapons leaving them dead
That was years in the plural ago already, which is insane to me.
