Although I did see that video in thumbnail form and the very idea of it made me irritated.

I actually thought that the parallels that the fellow in question observed were pretty well stated. As far as web-comics go, Homestuck is essentially Gravity's Rainbow or Ulysses: Enormous, recondite, ludicrous, self-indulgent and very, very, very engaging if you are on its wavelength.

^^ But when you start feeling real emotions about a thing that not only has no bearing on your life, but is not even a true creative pursuit, and those emotions are negative... what's the point? And why do you feel the need to involve others in it either way?

It's really kind of an addiction by this point. I feel like I need to pretend to be some media mogul (I've done it for much of my life, just with fewer strings attached and without the quasi-real-time element)...

How does CA not get this serious about her princess fantasies?
I think you need to realize two things here, Anonus

One is that you do not need to have these fantasies. You are having them by choice and can stop any time you want to and use your mental energy for something else.

Two is that they are your fantasies. Me saying I think Underdog is shit should not be harmful to you, because you only own him in your own fantasy, which is your own mental headspace. I don't have any power over what transpires there. It would be like me being offended if someone said that they could beat Kyoko in a Pokemon battle or that their country could conquer The Burgundia-Mojavine. It just doesn't make sense.

Then go cold turkey on it.

You are no longer operating on interest so much as obsession. Actual, legitimate obsession and compulsion. Stop yourself before it ceases to be any fun for you at all.

As for why CA or Naney or Mo or I do not fixate like that, the answer is simple: None of us are literally obsessed by our interests. They do not occupy our every waking moment in a distracting or uncomfortable way.

^ This is absolutely true and I am a little disappointed in myself for not making this point myself.

    Evidently I am not.

Further, I do have a pretty strong bias against Youtube channels that put ads on Youtube. So there is that working against this man and his video as well.

That is fair. Those ads can be hella annoying regardless of the actual quality of what is being advertised.

It's less that and more that it is a great indicator of exactly who does not need any more help, because anyone who can turn a profit with ads on Youtube has a company behind them. So by definition, anyone fishing for subscribers on Youtube, via Youtube ads, either does not need them, or is simply stupid.

Another example of someone who does this is Chuggaaconroy, who somehow has been able to use game footage from a ton of stuff that belongs to notoriously leadhanded companies (Nintendo and Sega in particular) in his ads.
  • also Markeplier, who both does not need the subscribers and is supremely annoying.

Pretty much, yeah. They're little video editorials/think-pieces about random stuff as part of the Internet arm of PBS. It's non-profit and pretty small-scale.

    ^ That will happen.

  • Christ, I have my first Music Exam in 2 days and

1: I have made 1 out of 10 required posts on the forum before then.

and 2: I need to know how to read the notes off of a roll, which is not something I can do.

right before bed was like the worst possible time to check this.
  • I might actually be too late to get my posts in, now that I read this more closely.

So, I guess that's another class I'm going to be failing.

What do I do? I'm done if I fail another class, they'll cut my financial aid and I'll have to drop out.
  • why do I do this to myself it's so stupid, I told myself I was just gonna make two posts a day every day last week, it would've taken like 20 minutes each and I would be done by now.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
MATLAB is a...programming language, I guess? It's geared towards math and science type stuff.

I'm learning it as part of my Fundamentals of Engineering course

I understand. I struggle with classes sometimes too.
  • 1.) be able to name the notes on the
staff which uses the G clef. Since the notes go forward alphabetically
as they ascend, all you really need to do is identify one line or space
and then be able to count from there

    2.) add the
durations of the notes given in a measure of score to determine the
meter. If you know the durations of the notes, all you need to do is add
for the sum. For example, if there are four quarter notes in a measure
and each is worth one beat, then the meter is 4/4.

    3.)
be able to recognize a musical symbol and tell what it does. The symbols
could range from a clef or rest to  a tempo or dynamic marker (loudness
    or softness)

4.) be able to identify a meter upon
hearing. All that is required here is that you count along to determine
    which fits best, a 2 count, a 3 count, or a 4 count.

I haven't read about any of this.

I am 100% unfit to take this exam but I have to, and am going to fail it.
  • *hugs Mojave*

I understand. I struggle with classes sometimes too.
But like, this isn't struggling, I'm pretty sure I'm just done now.

There's only....three? I think? Tests in this entire class, and I haven't contributed to the forums at all which is the other half of my grade, and I can't start now. I'm pretty sure I've already failed.

I am done, this was my last chance and I blew it without even realizing it.
  • if I fail any of these classes they'll cut my aid and if they do that I'll have to drop out

if I drop out what then? I don't have any useful skills to get me a decent job, and if I'm not actively in school I'll start getting bothered about those loans my mom made me take out
  • I'm dead. My life as a relatively burden-free human being is effectively over because I forgot to make some posts on a message board. Best case scenario I sacrifice all of my free time and maybe barely squeak by on all of my classes, which might buy me another year, maybe.

    I hate this.
  • I'm going to bed.

I never asked for any of this.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

    ...

Okay, the first one's relatively easy. G clef is named for the line that the little curly bit is on.

    image
The second line from the bottom, the one that the spiral is curved around? That's G. Specifically the G above middle C, but you probably don't need to know that.

In addition, the lines that the spiral is actually touching (the ones below and above the G line) are E and B, respectively

Besides that, all you need to do is go up and down the alphabet from there.

As for 2...it's basically a matter of counting. Try and get the different notes down (I can try and help you with it if you need it) and then add them up. I'd guess that they won't do anything too complicated, so it'll either be X/4 (meaning that the beat's based on quarter notes) or maybe X/8 (meaning that the beat's based on eighth notes). Add up how many quarter notes are in a measure (with half notes counting as 2, eighth notes counting as 1/2, etc.), and see if it comes to 2, 3 or 4. If not, then do the same thing with eighth notes.

3...here are some tips. If a symbol has a p in it, it probably has to do with softness. More p's mean more softness. Same with f and loudness. If it has an m in it, then it means somewhat. mp = somewhat soft.

And for rests, the half note rest lies on top of a line, making it look like a hat, while the whole note rest lies on the bottom of the line, like a (w)hole. Quarter rest looks like a lightning bolt and Eighth rest looks like a seven.

There are only 3 clefs (well, 3 major clefs). The G (Treble) clef, which is at the top of this post, the F (Bass) Clef, which looks like a backwards C or a comma, and the C (Alto/Tenor) clef, which, erm...

    image

It kind of looks like a pair of ram horns.

Dynamics don't really have helpful tricks. But they're usually just Italian words with English equivalents, so sound them out and think about whether they'd be fast or slow. Also, ritardando (rit.) means to slow down (it sounds like the slur for the mentally disabled) and accelerando (accel.) means to speed up.

4's a bit trickier. Best thing I can suggest is to listen to music that has those kinds of beats. 4/4 describes all of pop music. 3/4 can be found easily in waltzes (or AJJ's Stormy the Rabbit). 2/4's usually found in marches.

i don't think it's pretentious to call Homestuck postmodern, postmodern doesn't automatically mean fine art, and the concept of fine art isn't postmodern
