I think The Walking Dead did the 'gameplay informs the story' thing pretty well. There's one particular moment where you're in the middle of a dialogue section and a zombie attacks while you're still sorting through the dialogue, which is the best scare moment that I've ever seen in a videogame. Blows all of those scripted events in Half-Life out of the water.
I'll admit, its gameplay is limited, but it's not much worse than your standard point-and-click adventure game.
from what i've seen The Walking Dead and The Last of Us are extremely highly regarded by most people
Depends on who you talk to.
I think The Walking Dead is the better recieved of the two but I don't see people talk about the franchise (the games anyway) too often. The Last of Us was well regarded in general but had a sizable minority of detractors who either felt the game simply lacked any reason to be a game (eg. the argument that it was basically a CGI film with some quicktime events stringing it together) or felt it was problematic for various reasons (which I can definitely understand).
why are we only listing indie games, out of curiosity?
there are a heck of a lot of widely-praised games
Cuz the two she listed were indie games.
I'm nitpicking here, but I'm not a "she".
Whoops. Sorry. :<
It's alright, just as long as you remember in the future.
Your (and other peeps') recommendations are still pretty solid ones.
I will try to, but I don't talk to you all that often. Feel free to correct me if I make the mistake again though, I'll try my best not to do so, obviously.
You know, Heapers, I'm getting real tired of your shenanigans. You get results, but you're a loose cannon! Someday, I won't be chief anymore, and you won't get to pull stunts like this; you'll have to turn in your badge.
Oh, and there's Mirror's Edge, the Arkham series (well, the first one at least. Two's story is kind of whack and I haven't heard good things about the third), Quantum Conundrum and, of course, Portal and Portal 2.
St. Vincent's "Huey Newton" may be one of the best songs of her career.
It's an electronic ballad that turns into a stoner metal track with gospel vocals about Clark communing with the late Black Panther leader during an Ambien blackout. It is just as bizarre and trippy and yet way more accessible than it sounds.

i haven't played The Last of Us (again, seen videos on Youtube), but to the former complaint, there are parts of it where i think the impact is definitely reinforced by the fact that it's 'you' frantically trying to do whatever you're supposed to do

Yeah, that's certainly understandable. I still think you're a cool person, even if we don't talk all that often. I admit I often have trouble with the names/genders/what-not of people I don't talk too that often, too.

I only buy the first argument with some caveats as I've never played the game myself.
The characters are fine, but not out of line with a saturday morning cartoon series, the worldbuilding is slapdash and the plot boils down to "My lord, Gordan Freeman! Now go do this weird thing"

Definitely superfun though.
now do you actually think this or did you copy and paste this from somewhere.

Basically.
Gordon's like Lassie with a crowbar.
"What's that? There are zombies out there? Send Freeman to take care of it."
"What's that? The Combine's attacking? Send Freeman out through Zombie-town, he'll be fine."
"What's that? There are weird noises in the silo? Send Freeman. I mean, sure, we're doing important science stuff here that he might have an opinion on, but nah, let's send the good doctor to do some basic tasks. No, I'm sure there are no zombies in the silo"

Sometimes I fantasize about what Stuck would be like as a game
I'd be cool with it as either a 2D platformer/beat 'em up or an open world 3D platformer (and either with light RPG elements), though I do think the former makes a better fit than the latter only because lol retraux
Also I'd die forever of happiness if Ubi published/developed it but really, I'd be fine with whoever as long as they gave it a good amount of respect
Old John Brown’s body lies moldering in the grave, While weep the sons of bondage whom he ventured all to save; But tho he lost his life while struggling for the slave, His soul is marching on. (Chorus) John Brown was a hero, undaunted, true and brave, And Kansas knows his valor when he fought her rights to save; Now, tho the grass grows green above his grave, His soul is marching on. (Chorus) He captured Harper’s Ferry, with his nineteen men so few, And frightened "Old Virginny" till she trembled thru and thru; They hung him for a traitor, they themselves the traitor crew, But his soul is marching on. (Chorus) John Brown was John the Baptist of the Christ we are to see, Christ who of the bondmen shall the Liberator be, And soon thruout the Sunny South the slaves shall all be free, For his soul is marching on. (Chorus) The conflict that he heralded he looks from heaven to view, On the army of the Union with its flag red, white and blue. And heaven shall ring with anthems o’er the deed they mean to do, For his soul is marching on. (Chorus) Ye soldiers of Freedom, then strike, while strike ye may, The death blow of oppression in a better time and way, For the dawn of old John Brown has brightened into day, And his soul is marching on. (Chorus)

i think if i were to play it blind i'd probably have found it thoroughly amusing
I think that's pretty cool. *pat pat*
I mean come on.
I think Jazzpunk is a better game in the same vein. It's also more overtly comedic though, so idk.
mostly my impression of TSP was 'pretentious, condescending hipster shit', but that's not the kind of opinion i would normally ever form of anything
looking back, it actually strikes me as quite witty
i don't know Jazzpunk, maybe i'll check it out
That is my experience with entropy, the heat death of the universe...
Also, you could copy paste that out in the Jack Bauer Parabells.

Then again, I'm the kind of guy who thought of the similarly minimalist Thomas Was Alone as a work of art
Jazzpunk looks really interesting though, I want to try it

Though those may not be the kind of American traditional song you're thinking of.
While weep the sons of bondage whom he ventured all to save;
But tho he lost his life while struggling for the slave,
His soul is marching on.

And Kansas knows his valor when he fought her rights to save;
Now, tho the grass grows green above his grave,

And frightened "Old Virginny" till she trembled thru and thru;
They hung him for a traitor, they themselves the traitor crew,
But his soul is marching on.
