  • I recall cat shows being fun because there were lots of cats to look at.

    I was a weird kid.

i've never been to a cat show but lots of cats to look at sounds cool

although now there is the internet, of course

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I have had... at least four cats (some others stayed with us only briefly), one now living in a neighbour's backyard (he's ancient and huge) and another still with us. I have also had two dogs, one given away to a retired police officer and one who died of cancer a few years back. We have had many fish, as well as a few hamsters that were technically my sister's.

^^ The cats are fine. Even the owners are fine. But breeders are fucking nuts.
  • also a few years ago I informally took care of a local stray I named Blackstar (I was really into Warrior Cats at the time).

He was cute, he just sorta wandered off one day, hopefully he's OK.

my flatmate has a fish called Carrie

    she's cool

well, he's cool, we're pretty sure he's actually male

everyone still calls him a she, which is probably not good for his self-image and might be giving him an identity crisis i guess

The force of habit is a weird thing sometimes

I went into the living room and, without thinking, reached for the pushbutton dimmer switch that isn't there anymore

Even though I was the one who removed the dimmer switch, so logically I should already know it's not there

Nobody wants the Royal Scotch Tape?

    It's magic, you know!

  • So I may soon be responsible for adding a small amount of content to Europa Universalis 4.

    Cool!
  • Said small amount of content.

Myself and Northernlion were discussing how the "Form Netherlands" decision as Burgundy is kinda broken because it just gives half of your country to France, so I made that small event chain as an alternative, and he liked it enough that he said he's going to contact the relevant department head at Paradox Games.

    I'm really quite excited!

Thinking about Matilda again for some reason.

    1. I always felt a bit sorry for her brother. Ending up on the run from the law is kind of a satisfying ending for the parents, because they're terrible people, but Michael's terribleness seems to come solely from the fact that his parents encourage him to be terrible. I guess that's not an excuse, mind you, but it seems like he had a chance at being a better person if he could get out of that environment.
    2. The bit about Mr. Wormwood turning car odometers back with a drill wouldn't work in a modern context, since cars made in the past 15 years or so all have digital odometers.
    3. Part of the reason I haven't watched the movie adaptation yet is that I have a very vivid mental image of the setting, the characters, etc. in my head and I worry the film won't live up to it. (The fact that the movie moved the setting to America is particularly worrying.) I still intend to give it a watch sometime, though.
    4. HOLY CRAP I NEED TO SEE THE MUSICAL ADAPTATION WHEN I GET THE CHANCE

I believe this is a portion of Lancaster, Ohio as viewed from former U.S. Route 33.

    image

The Exif data says it was shot on 26 May 2007, and I'm not going to argue with it.

Fetch my princessly Tim Hortons coffee!

You know, milady, you can say "princely". It's not gender-specific.

In Centralian English, the word is "princessly!"

"Centralian English" isn't a thing. Like, you just made that up, your highness.

    Less talking, more coffeeing!

    Ugh, fine. Here's your coffee.

I thought I asked for Tim Hortons coffee! This coffee you've given me is way too expensive.

Tim Hortons doesn't operate in this country, your highness.

Then it looks like you're going to be doing some traveling, doesn't it?

The coffee will be cold by the time I get back from Canada, milady.

Good point. Just make me some tea.

What kind of tea, your highness?

    Princessly tea.

    I'm moving to America.

  • I just realized that I have a Greek Chromebook.

My uncle lives in Greece, and my aunt, him, and their kids are staying there for a year-long vacation, but it seems really weird that they'd order one from there rather than just... buying one in the US.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
is it any different from an American Chromebook?
  • edited 2014-03-03 08:13:00
Not really. It just has Greek characters on all the... labels? Stickers? Whatever you'd call the things on the bottom of the computer.

    That's kinda cool, actually.

How did they manage to get one with a North American charger, I wonder?

At least, I assume you have a North American charger, because if you had to plug in your laptop with a travel adapter you'd probably have noticed sooner. :P

Donner Party reference in Pepper Ann

That's kind of edgy for 1990s Disney

It was in the box. I really have no clue.

I don't usually feel secondhand embarrassment for fictional characters but Pepper Ann is pushing me to
