You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I was invited to join a secret "book club" at a big library. But there were weird supernatural rules...only book club members could see other book club members, and the agenda/planner book thing we had was sentient and could communicate by writing on its pages (we called it our "secretary").
There was even a lame Goosebumps-style twist ending: I realized I could see all the members of the book club, which meant I'd become a member despite not having formally accepted the invitation.
was it like Madoka Magica or something
I guess! It was really weird.
Also there was a less interesting dream about my family going on some kind of vacation, but instead of a hotel we stayed in a house. And I kept trying to get away to get to my laptop so I could talk to you. ("I wanna go talk to my sweetie!" I told Dad)

As for Coke Freestyle machines: I think they're cool, but AU doesn't like them
I am savoring them while they last, because some person or group of people is going to complain to corporate that they're too complicated and confusing and then they will all slowly disappear over the course of a year or so.

My only real complaint with them is that the lines tend to build up faster than with a basic soda fountain, because there are literally like a hundred options and every person who gets a drink stands there and flips through three or four screens of soda choices before filling up.
The Wendy's in Gahanna actually had to add a second machine to get around that...

I'm fond of the Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper myself, but not all of them have it because Dr Pepper isn't actually a Coke product. :V
Aliroz, that's quite a set of mental gymnastics there, accusing the public domain of greed.
i thought you were a not-city person? Surely you know the pain of wanting a book that isn't in your local library, and having to wait an age for them to send it from the central library, only to find that it's gone missing?
i value books, but primarily for their content; it's not like i have a fetish for books as a material object.
The local library should have books, and it should be properly funded and able to buy your requests. Because it makes me sad to think that some people can't get the books they want. :( Or, you could buy your own copy, or borrow it from a friend who has bought it; because, once it has been bought, the publisher has been paid; and you can loan it out and stuff, and give it, and stuff.
But this whole "illegally downloading a pdf for the non-public-domain book you want" is annoying to me because you're willing to pay for the monitor, you're willing to pay for the keyboard and the mouse, and you're willing to pay for electricity and internet access.
There should be a legal and relatively cheap way to get books, a way that helps the publisher (and maybe the Author, too). Books should be available, but not in such a way that the money goes to a service provider instead of a publisher.
In short, I guess I don't know how to solve that problem. We should print more books and have more libraries and make it easier to buy books; and maybe reduce the costs of other things so that people have money to buy books.
Just found something so bad on tumblr that I immediately felt the urge to tell you all about it. Which I won't, out of the kindness and mercy that I keep for emergencies like this.

The easiest way to reduce the cost of printing books is to not print the books.
Basically.
Aliroz, i guess i don't see how ebooks or whatever are 'cheating the publisher' any more so than borrowing a copy that was already in the library. Either way, you're not paying for a copy. Somebody paid for one copy, but that somebody wasn't you. Suppose the library bought one copy and six people borrowed it; the publisher hasn't received any more money than they'd have gotten if one person had bought a copy and the other five had downloaded it for free.
As for buying a copy yourself, books are expensive. So is computer equipment, of course, but i've had this same laptop for about 4 years now, during which time i could have downloaded an enormous number of books (and have downloaded quite a few - and entirely legally, i might add).
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
so ummm this tran wreck of a novel is having a revitalization I guess, after like a year of not being a thing? Also I discovered that I deleted my backed up unfinished draft back then, so, I will have to start again. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I'm sure no one would enjoy this novel except myself, but that is because I am weird and I like making things that please me.

Good point, you're right.
Dang it.
@Tachyon: Good point. I really don't have a good solution for this, and it's not really reasonable to go on about how ebooks are cheating the publisher.

Screw the audience, they don't matter. This is your novel. Write things that you enjoy. That's what it's about.

thus said Burger King is the actual best Burger King.
anything but Raspberry Coke is just plain incorrect.
So you can have, for instance, Caffeine Free Lime Diet Coke, if you're insane.
People hate them because they think they're too good for them or something.
