I know little of reddit other than that some parts of it are apparently amazing and have things like photo shopping a baby driving a tiny car into pictures, and some parts of it are just awful and draining. So saith this gal I know at church.
I am still baffled as to why you would spend $10 to buy membership into a site that is essentially Reddit but older.

Basically this. Additionally, the forums that are well-moderated, particularly the media forums, actually do have some really nice discussion going on in them. Their comics/web-comics forum was also an early and important supporter of Partydog's work, so go them.
y'know if SA bans people for drawing risible yoshi fanart or whatever offsite i'd have figured they'd ban people for posting on white supremacist sites, too

In the latter case, it's not about people not talking with you, but about the convenience of having a forum to talk with people on. And there is other content on-site worth accessing.
That said, I don't disagree about the paywall thing. It might not be much for a lot of people, but it's still kind of weird and frivolous...
