I often feel like people will bend over backwards to, if the work's author is a bad person or if a work's morals aren't sound under scrutiny, see the work as not just flawed but outright bad.
Not sure if that's what's going on here, but I find that tendency somewhat troubling.
this person is pointing out that Ender's Game is a clear reflection of Orson Scott Card's dubious, immature concept of morality. It days nothing about how well or poorly written the book is.
That said, I would be willing to say that being centered around such dubious ethics would definitely be a strong mark against a book, or any other piece of artistic expression, even if it is not enough to discount it outright.

Look, you don't get to talk smack about Orson Scott Card. Only I get to talk smack about that soapface.
A lot of time it just means "trying and putting in effort"
I agree, but if there were ever an article that deserved that label, it'd be the one that presumes there is super disturbing calvinist propaganda in Harry Potter because JKR liked Gryffindors too much.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
In the updated sequel to A Confederacy of Dunces, Ignatius runs a subreddit no one reads after getting kicked out of the dark enlightenment for fighting with PUAs, and Myrah runs a popular Tumblr SJ blog.

Well, that's presumptuous, not pretentious.
Although it did get pretty pretentious, in that it seemed to be pretending to greater wisdom where little was there.
It's more, "how has her religion affected her writing", which is a fair thing to bring up.
It'd be silly to say that JKR is trying to actively, subliminally prolestytize through her writing.
The problem with it is that it asserts that she is writing from a political viewpoint that is diametrically opposed to basically every stance that she has taken in or outside of the books. The assertion is intriguing, but the counterarguments are strong enough to make the whole premise of the essay seem disingenuous.
There is a proper time and place to use "pretentious", and that is when a thing is rubbing your nose in how fancy-schmancy-pancy it is. I felt like that reading that essay.
Miko, I don't like it when people analyze things I like, so I can understand that attitude.

Which when you think about it is really the opposite of overanalysis. It's just tunnel vision.

Now that that is done, I should tell Aliroz to stop seeing himself as a bad person, etc.
It really means a lot to me that you don't think I'm terrible.

I wonder why this is.
It sounds easier.

I'll have to be a boss fight, then.
tbh I liked that essay, even if it was overanalyzitudinal and stuff. Made me think a little.
