This one is really nice! It's based on a theme made for Axe bodyspray, strangely (although since it was a UK Tumblr they used the Lynx brand instead) but you wouldn't know it from my changes.

I think I may just finish that Tearaway review I had planned just so I can get some more new content on there, it'd be a waste if I didn't add new stuff.

    I'm home now.

It's snowing for the first time in about a week...and I'm totally ok with that, seeing as how I have nowhere to go the rest of the weekend.

Wait, the Simpsons is still on?

Wasn't that a show from, like, the time of Bananas in Pajamas?

    Or Muppet Babies?

It's still on, although it has been around since... 1989, I think?
  • Yeah, the Simpsons is one of the longest-running TV shows in recent history (and probably the longest cartoon).
  • The longest continuous running animated show, iirc.

It died a while back though. It's just been shuffling on out of spite for good entertainment

    And money

    Meh.

Lordagsbarnetimen is classic, and has been going on since a long time ago.

(Has never seen The Simpsons.  Man, those character designs look ugly.)
  • Early Simpsons is probably the best encapsulation of white suburban America at the time of its creation.

Modern Simpsons is a conflagration of whatever's popular at the time combined with cheap gags, just like most 'adult' animation.

It's kind of like how Early Spongebob is full of heart and emotion while Modern Spongebob is mechanical and cold.

Now that is esoteric (for anyone that isn't Scandinavian).

Also apparently longer running even than Guiding Light, which is really quite impressive.

    Kinda sorta yeah.

Early Simpsons is reasonably interesting. It also only existed because Tracey Ullman was a fan of Groening's comics.

    Nope, that's Sazae-san, it's been airing since 1969

And the comic is twenty years older than that, too.

Doraemon also dates back to the late '60s, if I'm not mistaken.

    Yeah...

Compare Sweet, Sweet Victory (whichever episode that was) to One Coarse Meal.

Compare Something Smells to The Splinter.

Copmpare Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV to Stuck in the Wringer.

Compare the episode with the "pinky up, spongebob!" and Spongebob really needing water to A Pal For Gary.

The most known Doraemon series ran from 1979 to 2005. There was one in 1973 but it's pretty obscure

Speaking of which, you might like Groening's comics if you read them. They're fairly underrated.

I'm sure it should be fairly easy to obtain some of the older collections.

Compare the episode where they sell chocolate door to door to Squid's Visit

Compare The Salty Spittoon episode to Face Freeze.

Compare Pranks a Lot to Demolition Doofus.

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Also: They rarely rerun old episodes of Sazae-san (in Japan, old TV shows rarely get reran), and the creator herself said the show was never being released on home video

That's, like, the opposite of how it would work in America

Sazae-san would have been in reruns for ages over here

(of course, most soap operas have been on for decades and had thousands of episodes, and the dedicated soap opera network, SOAPnet, was deemed a bust and replaced with Disney Junior)

Apparently a lot of the plots are reused from episodes from the 70's since most of them are lost.
Well, not lost, but like Anonus said they haven't been released in video so most people haven't seen them.

    It's a very interesting show

I like redundancy, tautology, and repetition; because I like redundancy, tautology, and repetition.

Okay, okay, I'll knock it off.
  • New Simpsons is okay. People expect far, far too much of it, that's the biggest problem.
  • People have always seemed to me to be like, really angry about the newer Simpsons episodes (the definition of what is "newer" always seems to be "the most recent five seasons"), and I don't understand why.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    Nostalgia
  • It's The Simpsons. It can't just be a reasonably good animated comedy, it has to be the best animated comedy, all the time.

I'll just post this since I'll end up parroting him anyway.

I don't think it's really worth caring about. It stopped being "epoch-defining" a while ago, so it's just another animated comedy, for better or worse. It shouldn't have to be something more. Maybe it used to be, but... well, whatever.

But it's never really been my brand of humour in the first place. I will admit to having enjoyed the occasional episode, but I just don't have strong feelings about it

I quite literally grew up with The Simpsons, so I do hold a fondness for those first few seasons...
