Well, no. A gun already looks dangerous by virtue of being a gun. The reason for an indication on a kid's toy isn't as a warning, it's to indicate that it's not a real gun so you don't attack someone coming at you with a toy.

Didn't 9/11 mark the cultural end of the 1990s, too?
Yeah, more or less. And arguably the 2000s ended with the financial crisis and Obama's inauguration, but we're still less than a decade removed from then, so it's hard to tell.

Think of it this way: "Assume it's a deadly weapon unless it's explicitly marked otherwise" is a much safer system than "Assume it's harmless unless it's marked as a deadly weapon."

After all, a malicious person could always remove the markings from a real gun.

I'm mainly talking about these warnings for children.

Well, again, I'm mostly talking about children here but you could easily teach kids to assume it's always a deadly weapon but to also look out for (whatever the universal indicator is). But that is a good point.

    No.

But you are a transgender woman with a demented sense of humour and mad shmup skills. That certainly counts for something, even if you do not think that it does.
  • Who wants a pointy existence anyway? Anytime you'd try to hug someone like Pyridrym (This heaper was chosen for this random security test by a jury of 12 unbiased monkeys) You'd stab them with your pointyness.

Honestly, pointless is the way of the future.

In my most cynical moments, I find celebrating birthdays to be a particularity most uncouth activity, that the act of being is oftentimes is somehow given more precedence over other occasions which are actually indicators of a person's worth.

It's not so much what's explicitly said as the framing that's a pretty right-wing product of eighties America.

    Very smart and fun, though.

Y'know, one thing that's inhibited me as a writer is the fear that I don't understand people well enough to write about them

i think this is a valid concern, and i share it with regards to my own writing

this has nothing to do with autism or whatever, it's important for any writer to be able to represent things convincingly, proportional to their role in the story and their significance in readers' minds.  Rapunzel might look like a space alien, but what matters is that viewers can understand her and empathize with her.

the story does not reside in the text, the text is a device for producing stories in readers' minds

having said all of which, we both have firsthand experience of being human; who's to say your experiences are less valid than your readers'?  if some readers are too narrow-minded to get you, that doesn't mean all of them will be

but i do worry that i won't be able to write other personalities in a way that convinces

You're writing huh? What a novel idea.

  • the problem with my writing is that I outgrow it about 2 weeks after I write it, usually

this is why I write poems, I actually finish them and am satisfied w/ them for like a week.
