Guys let’s buy a pretty piece of land and build a little self-sustaining libertarian community and live in cute tiny houses.
*shakes fist at the air*  tumblr libertarians
why get a pretty piece of land when you could build your community under the ocean?
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    what about a library? jeez
  • I want a cuttlefish as a pet if we're living under the ocean.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I can never tell what level of seriousness Tumblr libertarians are operating at
  • I don't understand why libertarians try to make themselves seem so cool and hip when it's such an old white dude party.

I mean look at this guy

    look at him

  • A libertarian is a person who believes that no one has the right, under any circumstances, to initiate force against another human being, or to advocate or delegate its initiation. Those who act consistently with this principle are libertarians, whether they realize it or not. Those who fail to act consistently with it are not libertarians, regardless of what they may claim.
  • yeah but in actuality Libertarians are just this

    ...he doesn't look old

his hair and beard are terrible tho, and the suit is old-fashioned and ugly
  • We can do anything if we do it together.

probably the same level as Twitter Marxists
  • like seriously you could go hang-gliding with those lapels

There is little to me more amusing than the idea that there is entire, multi-act play, that essentially consists of those two people standing around and talking like that the entire time.

French Restoration-era sex comedies. Angela Carter's take on "Puss-in-Boots" is an homage to them.

I didn't say I was trying to help.

On the one hand it's hilarious they actually exist.

On the other hand, part of what made The Lusty Argonian Maid so funny was the implication that the author thought it was actually hot.

The problem is that most people who call themselves "libertarians" are either right-wing libertarians or, more often than not, just economic conservatives who want to sound more enlightened, when really the first self-identified libertarians were socialists.

I mean, those plays do have people emerging from bedrooms with ruffled clothes and various other intrigues, but yes, most of the dialogue is innuendo or double entendre. Hell, think what language that last expression is from!

have you seen all the gifsets on tumblr of men in ill-fitting suits with comment chains of like 15 ladybloggers going OH MY GOD MY OVARIES
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i have not, thankfully
  • I'm iffy on the act itself but bad sex puns are hilarious to me.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
although i have seen posts about 'how to wear suits' featuring men wearing suits badly, which is fairly headdesk-inducing

Yes, but right after it was a guy explaining how poorly fitted the suit was and how it actually should look.
  • who do you people follow that this even comes up
  • just like

    follow normal people

    I can imagine...

I am not sure if I wear suits well, as I have rarely had to and do not own any that do not seriously need tailoring...
  • I have an old military-style suit that I wore all of once

I have not worn a suit since.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    I don't think I've worn a suit since my grandfather's funeral

The ironic thing is that most of the founders of the Libertarian Party started out as energetic, idealistic young intellectuals. But it seems that they were the first and the last great influx of young blood.

i get the impression that at this point the actual meaning of 'libertarian' (and similarly 'liberal') is entirely contextually-dependent and doesn't denote any specific ideology
  • things you need to do to wear a suit well

    * have a suit that fits

    * put it on

    * do not button the bottom button of your blazer

    * a pocket square is always a good idea

the difficult thing here is the whole "suit that fits" bit

it should fit fairly close to perfectly when you buy it, and then you take it in for tailoring, the cost for which you should keep in mind when buying the suit.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    i like how they look

i would probably wear them if i had money
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Suits always seemed overly-formal to me

    But to each their own
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
not like every day as a casual thing, obviously
  • Suits are dumb

    excuse u

  • this game legitimately might have the least likable character in all of fiction.

    that's a fairly substantial claim

Well, if someone explicitly refers to themselves as a "left-libertarian" or "libertarian socialist," it does tend to mean something specific, but that's partly because it's not as commonly used as an appellation; the same goes for talking about "classical liberalism," which is itself the precursor to right-libertarianism. A "civil libertarian" also has a fairly obvious definition, but that definition is tied only to one aspect of a person's politics. "Libertarian" itself, on the other hand, really does have an extremely diffuse set of connotations and denotations.

people who don't obsess over suits are probably normal.

normal people do not use tumblr

Is he a reference to Thank You, Masked Man?

Also, I'm not 100% sure that you can make claims to absolute punchability without having read the last third of Homestuck. I mean, Cronus Ampora. My gods.
