    'Ayin Randolphus.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I wanna see Grant Morrison do an Adventures of Klarion The Witch Boy comic, because that was the best part of  Seven Soldiers.
  • And The Last of Us, for that matter.

You're watching the episode on violence as a key plot device, aren't you?
Yep. Though part of it is that, despite my small desire to play Bioshock 3 one day, I've heard so many bad things about it and gotten spoiled so many times that the chances of me buying it are pretty low. All I'm missing is the gristle that connects all the story elements together.

And let's be honest, I can only care about one zombie game about a guy accompanying a girl through a zombie apocalypse. And Walking Dead already has that title.

Dumbledore is Keyser Soze, who is killed by people.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I have to say, of all the explanations for the One Man Army thing in FPSes, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger's "this is an old man bullshitting to a gullible young man about how awesome he was back in the day" is pretty ingenious.
  • My dreams exceed my real life

Dumbledore is Keyser Soze, who is killed by people.

Dumbledore left the cake out in the rain.

He doesn't think that he can take it, cause it took so long to bake it, and he'll never have that recipe again.

"sorry idiots but the entire point of dark souls lore is that its an open-to-interpretation exercise in death of the author so you can’t actually cry about people interpreting a character as trans just because you don’t like it."

Man, it kind of is, isn't it.

Makes me like Dark Souls more.
  • Wait, so that's why Booker drowns himself in the end? Because of a chain of destruction resulting from an alternate timeline version of himself?

GAH, IT'S FRIGGING LOOPER AGAIN! I HATE THAT MOVIE!

    Don't play Bioshock Infinite.

    Play Nier or Dark Souls.

I honestly thought that the idea was pretty interesting and potentially very poignant, but I have neither played that game or seen that film, so I have no context.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
I remember an article that said BI was the first art game in a while they didn't feel embarrassed to tell people about.

Which is weird, because I would feel way more awkward explaining the plot of Bioshock Infinite than explaining the plot of given examples Spec Ops and Hotline Miami.

Also apparently Spec Ops is ableist, because kids, Hallucinating The Plot syndrome is a real disease that effects millions of protagonists every year.
  • I don't have Bioshock Infinite or Dark Souls.

I'm gonna go play One Way Heroics instead.

everyone who is alive today should play Dark Souls. Extensively, if possible.

  • I have BioShock Infinite for free as of today, but I don't know if I want to play it because the combat looks gross

I don't know about anyone else, and maybe this might make me a prude, but I don't think I like feeling powerful at the expense of becoming an outright monster

    That's not wrong.

It doesn't make you better than anyone who does (provided it's in a fictional context anyway), but it's not wrong.
  • I'm sure that Bioshock Infinite probably handles it better than Looper, if only because Looper handles it poorly.

...I just don't like time-travel plots in general, unless they set some frigging rules down to keep it from getting out of hand and stick to them. Few writers know how to effectively use time travel as opposed to using it because it's cool. It's very, very easy to break a plot once you introduce time-travel and alternate realities. Part of why I don't like Looper is because its time travel rules appear to be 'whatever seems dramatically appropriate', and that just kills me.
  • I'm tempted to ask you to give it to me if you don't want it but I've still got two games I've been given at no charge that I haven't played yet (they are F.E.A.R. 3 and Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed).

    Same. Sort of.

I'm still not sure if I'd play Bioshock 3 if I could for no cost. I mean, plot struggles aside, I want that Skyhook.
  • And immediately after posting that someone offered me a free copy of Nidhogg.

    aaaaa
  • I guess it's that whole "plot doesn't match the gameplay" thing that's throwing me. I mean, with something like Borderlands 2 it's not as bad because the main objective is revenge, but we're supposed to be "rescuing" Elizabeth, right?

I'm honestly probably going to end up playing it (my best friends are both suckers for it, and tree's a hard price to pass up) but eh.

    Whither Primer?

To be fair, I have only read about it and whatnot, but it seems very well thought out, if perplexing.

(Also Homestuck, but Homestuck does things with the fabric of reality that pass into John Barth territory. Problem Sleuth, too.)

I would gladly give it up but it's on our PS Plus subscription.

    Sorry bro.

    It's fine.

Honestly my interest in the BioShock series is pretty minimal except as an object of my occasional ranting about games everyone seems to like but me. Even if you could give it to me I'd probably tell you to keep it for that reason.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Actually, I think that most of the appeal of Andrew Hussie's work to me is that he is functionally a postmodern novelist who does really elaborate illustrations for his work.

Huh. Hadn't heard of that movie before. I'll have to check it out.

short version: Sony's giving it away for the PS3 if you have PS Plus, I'm having reservations because the violence is dissonant with the plot.

Sorry for not making that clear.

I wish more people here played 4x games also. I often ramble about my alternate history playthroughs and generally get the impression that no one cares.

    which is fine, but still.

Let me tell you. About Fallen London.
Bioshock Infinite was a good game. A little too short, and you can see the missed potential (and man, is the false equivalency w/r/t the Vox almost physically painful), but it's still good stuff.

  • I didn't analyze every detail of Looper so I didn't particularly catch the fallacy in its plot but I enjoyed it for what it was

If nothing else, it managed to be engaging
  • And Homestuck's time travel...I've never had a problem with it, really.

I never really understood the powers of the two Felt members that can follow future/past trails, but everything else is fine. Homestuck's very strict about time-travel. No matter how you use it, it'll always end poorly unless you follow the actions of the alpha timeline. And that, specifically, made it not game-breaking.

I also don't mind Madoka's time-travel, mainly because it's usage is very specific.
  • I wish more people had Vitas.

I entirely blame this on Sony's memory card manufacturing department. I love my console, but goddamn, the low sales aren't surprising anyone considering that you gotta give up an arm and a leg for more storage space...

When you start the game, the entire reason you're searching for Elizabeth is so you can give her up to other parties to wipe away a gambling debt. Of course, it gets a bit sticky later on.

"Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt."

That's okay. I'm the only one who didn't like it out of the six or so people I watched it with.
