Well, Pollock did select his colours very carefully, and layered them in patterns, but he never set out with any image in mind. I like his work. It's fun to look at.
I was thinking more of his more colourful canvases, but that one is pretty interesting: I like tracing the drip lines and flourishes to see how they came down and where they started. Also how the hues interact.

I bet it's better with the real-life painting, because staring at the computer screen isn't so fun. It kinda hurts the eyes, and you can't really relax your eyes that much.
Same way that I prefer to read print books.
Screens seem to require constant focus, and that's not that good for your eyes.
Computer eye strain and computer vision syndrome are caused by our eyes and brain reacting differently to characters on a computer screen than they do to printed characters. Our eyes have little problem focusing on printed material that has dense black characters with well-defined edges. But characters on a computer screen don't have the same degree of contrast and definition.
Words and images on a computer screen are created by combinations of tiny points of light (pixels), which are brightest at the center and diminish in intensity toward their edges. This makes it more difficult for our eyes to maintain focus on them. Instead, our eyes want to drift to a reduced level of focusing called the "resting point of accommodation" or RPA.
Our eyes involuntarily move to the RPA and then strain to regain focus on the screen. This continuous flexing of the eyes' focusing muscles creates the fatigue and eye strain that commonly occur during and after computer use.

This is absolutely true.
Pollock and Rothko both must be seen in person to get the true effect of their work. I would say that the same applies to Malevich as well, albeit to a lesser extent: A black box is still a black box, but seeing every little brush stroke in that black box is mesmerising if you are in the right mindset.

what about screens with higher resolution than the printed page

But worst of all, in a time when government mistrust is at its highest, the show’s core message throughout has been: trust the powerful, invisible government against the interests of your own personal freedoms. It’s just bewildering how heavily this message is hammered each episode, as characters quickly learn that rebelling against the instructions of the rich and powerful only brings you harm, and that trusting them and doing as your told is the only Right Way. It’s not only massively creepy – like some sort of McCarthy-era propaganda – but woefully out of touch with public sentiment.
this is the same vibe i got from The Avengers as well
I know a lot of comic fans distrust and dislike SHIELD.
Remember that one time where we argued about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I was all 'could you please do something interesting in terms of casting?'. That was fun.
i'm pretty sure that comics are only good if you like grew up with them
because to me they all seem just kinda samey and mediocre
I assume that you mean mainstream superhero comics and perhaps the majority of newspaper comics here. Because indie comics, graphic novels and so forth are a whole different kettle of fish... as you are well aware.

Though I will have you know that Voodoo is an excellent and well developed character and reading her comic's run will be the best decision you ever make.
Which basically means, when you're not taking things seriously, they're really awesome and a brilliant source of puns and other jokes.
On the other hand, if you are taking things seriously, you want to avoid them like the plague since some douche on the internet is gonna crack a joke on what you're saying.
I was never into superhero comics themselves, which makes me feel weird...
I never was, either, although what I have read of Grant Morrison and Alan Moore's work has been intriguing. But that's sort of an obvious statement given my proclivities.

Yes, I know that the above statement does not give off light.
Unless you display it in a non-black color font. Then it technically does.
Well, I guess black display on a computer monitor technically does too.
So maybe it is brilliant.

Most fonts are made of stone, which is not black. It's more like an off-white color, frequently. Sometimes the water is colored too.
And the computer should stop monitoring me. It's supposed to be the display, not me.
