A reality tv show turns out to be actually a bunch of people creating a fake persona for entertainment purposes. I never would have guessed. It turns out a corporate-run reality tv show is insincere and ungenuine as to real life.

But this is a show that is absolutely dependent on its people being "real."
The Robertsons are not being exploited; they’re fully on board with this plan, cynical as it appears. And why shouldn’t they be? If A&E wanted to give me $8 million to play a caricature of myself on TV I would totally do it.
yeah for that kind of money i can't even say i blame them

Sorry. That does change things from other shoes which are more transparently non-real.
Is that what people actually think rednecks are like? (I realize that swamp-land-type redneck does not equal agrarian redneck, but still)
Like, is that how christian fundamentalists and conservatives are percieved (enough that such a show would be taken as a genuine reflection of such?).
It's funny, CA and Anonus could look many ways, and they'd still be CA and Anonus, but Tre, Kexruct and Naney are very tied to their physical appearance in my mind.

Wonder why.
How so, Spindly One?
Kexruct, Naney, and Tre looks exactly like I'd expect someone with their personalities to look. This is not an insult, because I like all of them a lot.

To be honest, I think the popularity of Duck Dynasty speaks more to television's long-held refusal to cater to Christians (beyond cheap stuff like televangelism) than anything else...
Like, if that's you guys's experience with the people-in-the-south-of-the-United-States / rednecks / fundamentalists / conservatives / whatever-"red-state"-people-is-supposed-to-mean are all like; then wow, that actually explains quite a lot. If that's how you've been treated, no wonder you don't like it. If I had to put up with people like that, I'd get sick of it, too.
Since I don't live in said "south" or said southern states, I'll just have to guess that it's not actually like that; and that some form of the vocal minority takes all the attention.
And to be quite honest a lot of American conservatism is rooted in things you don't like. True, it values things like tradition (like you do) but that's pretty much the only position they have I'd say you would agree with.
Speaking of conservatives, i found the recent news about the government's attempts to incentivize fracking puzzling.
Fracking is controversial, disruptive and environmentally damaging. Assuming they aren't just doing this out of spite, why introduce rewards for councils that back it? That's not the free market at work, that's favouritism of a baffling variety.

I like Christian Values (except none of them is at all exclusive to christians. It's really a stupid name that way): Tolerance, Forbearance, Chastity, Faith, Kindness, Mercy, Forgiveness, Love, Meekness, Diligence, Patience, and love for your fellow man.
It's not Christlike, but it is disturbingly common, and much more strongly associated with the political right than the left.
Homophobia is also common in places which aren't Christian, such as Islamic countries and the heavily secularized former USSR. While conservatism is obviously associated with the political right in Western countries, conservatism and Christianity are two different things.

Since 2011, part of the popular online forum Reddit has grown into an active marketplace for assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, and other powerful firearms, according to an investigation by Mother Jones. In the last six months alone there have been more than 1,000 listings posted by more than 400 Redditors on the GunsForSale subreddit, one of thousands of niche communities on the sprawling discussion site. Not only has Reddit allowed a gun market to thrive, it has also literally put its stamp on it: Gun purchases brokered through the site have included nearly 100 AR-15s engraved with Reddit's alien logo, which was used on the assault rifles with explicit permission from the company—while it was owned by media giant Condé Nast—according to email correspondence obtained by Mother Jones.
The guidelines page for GunsForSale instructs Redditors to suffix the title of their posts with the states they operate in, noting: "Sellers can prefer not to ship a firearm out of state, but do an in-state face-to-face transaction."
Lax regulations in many states encourage that preference. North Carolina, for example—where Redditor "mhuxtable" advertised an AK-47 for sale in August—has no law restricting assault weapons nor does it require a license or a background check to own semi-automatic rifles.
"Where in NC?" asked potential customer "SmithWessonMP" on the posting. "Want to trade for AR15?"
"Wake County," mhuxtable replied, suggesting that they continue the arrangement in private: "Message me with your trade idea."

Yes and no. For a lot of people, yes, that's first image that pops into someones mind when one thinks of Rednecks or christian fundamentalists. As someone who lives in the South, i can say I've seen a lot of people who fit the stereotype, but I've met a lot of other who don't.
Stereotypes aren't usually a reliable reflection of reality; they tend to persist because people see some traits that resemble the stereotype and extrapolate various other things about the people in question which aren't founded.

Behave in a way common associated with bible belt rednecks.
Perhaps fit the stereotype isn't the right choice of words. I'm aware stereotypes aren't an accurate reflection of reality.

I've always found it bizarre that Reddit's so lurid despite having corporate overlords (Advance Publications still owns it; it and Condé Nast are now separate divisions of the company)

... i don't think i understand America's gun culture
this is entirely legal, isn't it? i mean, you can buy firearms from many regular stores, i thought.
Uh, no, not really. Transporting across state lines like that is verboten, and while there are a number of states with lax background check laws, it's still not kosher in the slightest.

The following year the Fox network took over the Kmart name as foKMARTx

Out of curiosity, Odradek, how do you picture, say, Justice?
Or for that matter, Fossilmaiden?

That isn't why i dislike conservativism, though.
i can appreciate it's not an entirely awful ideology in all respects, but in practice conservatives have done a lot of damage to this country.

Seriously, how is homophobia christlike at all?

Although if you consider Wal-Mart a regular store, they do sell hunting rifles there (including hot pink ones, presumably for daddy's little girl).
i didn't register that they were trading them between states; i assumed they were posting which states they were operating in for that reason
