They are robots and they are cute! Which makes them two of my favorite things.

Also they can zap stuff so they're a convenient way to charge one's iPod.

    BUT BIDOOF
Bidoof is just a beaver :|
  • It is a BEAVER that can, with the proper training, clear up any rainy day and shoot a beam of ice. Just cool enough to be awesome, but not so cool that you'll be forbidden to take it to your school/business.
  • yeah but Magnemite can be your weight loss partner.

Columbia cartoons are weird, man. Not quite as weird as the Gene Deitch Tom & Jerry, or the more experimental UPA cartoons (the only UPAs they're running in this show are Mr Magoo shorts), but still a bit odd. The older Mintz-era ones seem to be consciously ripping off Termite Terrace and Disney. :P
  • Explain.

it will fool your friends by making them think you eat less than you do.
  • Like, by using magnets to manipulate the scale? I guess that works.

....Man, I'm still mad about Bidoof. No Water Gun? Seriously? The beaver can learn Thunderbolt and Ice Beam, but not Water Gun?

Yes, I know that Bibarel learns it, but...Bibarel looks stupid.

I'm extremely socially conservative. I am a fundamentalist. Also, I believe a lot of iffy things that other people really don't like. And, you know, having a religion with similar missionary ideas as Jehovah's witness, I've always identified with them a lot.

Except for being a Jehovah's Witness, I pretty much am a Jehovah's Witness.

I'm not saying you're wrong or that me (and people like me) should never be criticized or scrutinized or held to standards of right and wrong.  I'm saying I disagree with you.

    Is this Antenna TV?

I really do need to watch more UPA shorts. For such an influential studio, their work sure does get overlooked...probably because it's not owned by Time Warner or Disney. :P
  • How I feel about Jehovah's Witnesses depends on what particular church (chapters I think they're called?) we're talking about.

The ones in Allentown are by and large nice people as far as I know, the ones who live up this way on the other hand are very rude and lack any sense of privacy. They've also been known to picket things pointlessly in the past.

Joking Response:  If you support one picketer or protester, you support them all.  I tried to warn you guys about how awful protesters inherently are, but you didn't listen.  Also, in my opinion, Missionaries >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Privacy/politeness.

Serious Response:  Oh dear.  It's a shame when people use religion as an excuse to invade the right of privacy; and faith should be a reason to be polite and kind to people; not rude and intrusive.  Everyone has the right to say "no" and close the door to the missionaries, as much as I might wish otherwise.

The only non-knocking-on-doors thing I really know about the Jehovah's Witness religion is that they don't celebrate holidays and that they believe that only 140,000 people will go to Heaven.
  • Jehovah's Witnesses stick to their guns and know what they think

No, I just don't express my more conservative views for fear of how you guys react to them.  If I said certain of the things I actually believe and think, I'd have been banned long ago.

Also, you heapers have a huge habit of assuming I'm not a fundamentalist because you don't dislike me, so I can't be part of any group you don't like.  You dislike fundamentalists, but you're okay with me, so I'm not a real fundamentalist, I'm really more like one of you.

I'm as bigoted and stupidly conservative as anybody!
  • Like, by using magnets to manipulate the scale? I guess that works.

oh no, what you do is when someone sees you eating, you release your Magnemite from its pokeball and say "oh no, I'm not eating, my Magnemite is eating", and then shove the Magnemite into your food.

    it's basically foolproof.

They also don't celebrate birthdays, and many oppose blood transfusions to some degree.

They also worship on Saturdays, like I do. I've always considered them to be our estranged sister religion because of that.

  • I am a big believer in preaching by example.

More hardline Christian sects would probably say that makes me a hippie christian, but I didn't ask them, did I?

As long as you never eat anything spicy or flambe. A x2 damage multiplier's nothing to scorn.

I believe that preaching by example is the primary and most effective step in witnessing or sharing the gospel.

Walking the streets has its advantages, but it'll go better on the missionary if someone else has already been a good example to that person whose door they're knocking on.

I guess my problem is the difference in why they do what they do?

Like, I have immense respect for Mormons because they're both very accepting and their religion requires dedication, but (edit: I'm talking about Jehovah's from here on out) I really take umbrage with the idea that celebrating holidays is sinful, and I really don't like the idea that only 144,000 people are going to heaven. There are a lot of religions whose doctrines I don't necessarily agree with, but there's something particularly upsetting about that.
  • but I really take umbrage with the idea that celebrating holidays is sinful, and I really don't like the idea that only 144,000 people are going to heaven.

    Why?
  • If I remember that one conversation I had with the Scholar, just because only 144,000 go to heaven doesn't mean that only 144,000 get saved. In fact, the 144,000 are supposed to come back to the New Earth and teach/administer the other people of God.

...Also, I think you're actually talking about Jehovahs?
  • but I really take umbrage with the idea that celebrating holidays is sinful, and I really don't like the idea that only 144,000 people are going to heaven.

    Why?
...I'm honestly at a loss for how to explain this to you.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Maybe I didn't convey that well enough.
  • but I really take umbrage with the idea that celebrating holidays is sinful, and I really don't like the idea that only 144,000 people are going to heaven.

    Why?
I don't think it's too hard to understand. It seems very exclusionary (there are 7 billion and change people alive just today. It seems a bit weird that less than 1% of those are deemed good enough for a good afterlife) which can rub people the wrong way in of itself. Not to mention, it goes against conventional (unless you're a Calvinist) Christian doctrine that everyone is savable, if not necessarily saved already.
  • I found my Serial Experiments Lain boxset.

One of the sketches in the artbook has a restaurant that is clearly labeled as a "Hemburger" place.
