@Skyrim: Speaking of steam games, I think I'll uninstall my mods for Age of Empires II adding more textures. I like the simpler graphics better.
Why do they even have a mod to change the game's music. If you play Age of Kings without the music, you're not playing Age of Kings. It's like watching The Man From Snowy River with Mario Kart music instead of the original music. Or playing Sonic R to the music of a different game. The music is an integral part of the experience.
Seriously, why do they even have a mod to change the game's music. Can't improve on perfection.
in general i prefer Skyrim, tho i didn't get very far into Oblivion
tone-wise i feel Skyrim kinda goes too far the other way; some racial tension i can understand but it seems like almost everyone in Skyrim is racist
that and the civil war thing is annoying, since the whole morally grey conflict feels undermined by the fact that the whole thing would be resolved if everyone just joined forces and kicked out the blatantly evil Thalmor
i mean i'm sure there's some in-universe reason why you can't just do that, but it was still frustrating not to have that option
you can only pick whichever side you think is less bad
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.

Some societies are like that.

This is true in real life sometimes but kicking out a ruler can be more than a little hard.
Skyrim felt a bit too dark without having enough bright spots to provide catharsis. Oblivion's atmosphere was only cheery and racially harmonious on the surface, it's a bit darker underneath that (albeit still brighter overall than Skyrim.)
Frankly, I don't understand the tendency to always make racism such a big part of these constructed worlds. Like, just once can I have a fantasy game where people of different races more or less get along? You can do that and still challenge the idea of racism.
Also, even though Skyrim is my favorite game in the series I do think Oblivion had the best quests.

Christmas time is buzzing in my skull Will it let me be? I cannot tell There are some many things I cannot grasp When I think I've got, and then at last Through my bony fingers it does slip Like a snowflake in a fiery grip
Something's here I'm not quite getting; though I try, I keep forgetting Like a memory long since past Here in an instant gone in a flash; what does it mean? What does it mean!?
In these little bric-a-brac a secret's waiting to be cracked These dolls and toys confuse me so; confound it all, I love it though
Simple objects, nothing more but something's hidden through a door Though I do not have the key Something's there I cannot see; what does it mean? What does it mean!?
What does it mean?
Hmm...
I've read these Christmas books so many times I know the stories and I know the rhymes I know the Christmas carols all by heart My skull's so full, it's tearing me apart! As often as I've read them, something's wrong So hard to put my bony finger on
Or perhaps it's really not as deep as I've been led to think Am I trying much too hard? Of course! I've been too close to see! The answer's right in front of me! Right in front of me!
It's simple really, very clear, like music drifting in the air! Invisible, but everywhere Just because I cannot see it doesn't mean I can't believe it!
You know, I think this Christmas thing is not as tricky as it seems And why should they have all the fun? It should belong to anyone! Not anyone, in fact, but me! Why, I could make a Christmas tree! And there's no reason I can find I couldn't handle Christmas time! I bet I could improve it, too, and that's exactly what I'll do!

i would talk about the Elder Scrolls only right now i am trying to figure how to kill Ancano without running out of charge for the Staff of Magnus (i have no soul gems).
What's funny is that TES, at least for me, tends to be at its best when the tone is "dark, but things are getting better." And sometimes it feels like the games have conflict for no reason. I think the worst example of this is Morrowind's theme of racial tension between the Imperials and Dunmer, which didn't really work that well because the Empire is so mind bendingly reasonable and generous towards its provinces. I can understand the opposition to Imperial rule, but the fact that it is almost universally opposed baffles me.
Also my aunt tried to give me a copy of The God Delusion (given to her by her obnoxious atheist friend) and when I saw what it was I sort reflexively chucked it out of my hand.

nationalists tend not to take well to conquest by a foreign power, no matter how reasonable
plus elves and men have a long history of mutual dislike

^^ Yeah but like, you can't ascertain that it's garbage unless you find out what is inside the book, either secondhand or by peeking in yourself. I wouldn't toss away a book just because I disagree with it or think it is really bad. After all, people still read Hitler's book.
Because Richard Dawkins is a bastard and why would I dignify the beliefs of a person who both actively belittles mine and makes a point of not understanding them?

It's an intrinsic part of the Age-of-Empires-II-ness of Age of Empires II.
idk, maybe i'm just not big on grimdark
We are no longer friends.
I'll just sit here playing a MASTERPIECE while you play crap that's been made in the last fourteen years.
besides, I almost never play games made in the last fourteen years.
