    ^^^ pretty much

Gove has always annoyed me because he styles himself as an expert on education while ignoring all input from both academics specializing in the field and people with actual teaching experience

i just didn't realize he was this much of an asshole

Wait, it's not "Tories" or "Whigs" or "Liberals"?

Tories is a nickname. And liberals are a totally different thing. Think libertarianism.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
It's Conservatives.  Tories is a nickname used by both supporters and detractors.

Whigs haven't been a thing for over a century, and the Liberals merged with the Social Democrats to form the Liberal Democrats.

  • Seriously, what is it with obnoxious pro-rich policy wonks and believing that the poor are poor because of financial mismanagement?

But...about those British liberals/libertarians...well, here in the US, people who identify as "libertarian" these days tend to be the obnoxious anti-government minarchists who have a hard-on for everyone doing their own thing, and while they speak of supporting gay rights and abortion rights, they tend to especially concern themselves with destroying social safety nets for the poor.  Is that what British libertarians do too?

Precisely. Liberals. It's not just a Britain thing, it's Europe as a whole.
  • And if so, does this mean both the liberaltarians and the Conservatives like screwing over the poor?
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
    Yes.

    this is grotesque

most of the most gross political ads i have seen that i can remember are from britain for some reason

perhaps it is just selective memory

  • it is most frustrating seeing bad things in the world

it is even more frustrating when you can't like help at all

  • "I oppose higher taxes on the rich because one day I'll be rich too"

    1. as long as tax rates are not 100%, you will still be making more money as your income goes up, even when tax rates are increased
    2. you don't make money in a vacuum; that money has got to come from somewhere
    3. you're living in a fucking fantasy
  • i seem to have an incredible knack for mucking things up
  • i've noticed that i tend to remember my dreams better when i sleep during the day
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
'liberal' also gets used here in the US sense, increasingly

    because globalization, American media, etc

    shit's confusing
  • i wish they were nicer

like usually they seem to be moderately to incredibly horrific but like in a totally nonchalant way
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
and of course Labour have spent the last 2 decades trying to prove they're actually conservatives for some unfathomable reason, all the while slagging off the Conservatives and the Lib Dems

    politicians man
  • come to think of it there is almost never any emotion in my dreams at all
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
my dream last night had candy in it, and i could taste it

i don't normally remember tasting things in my dreams

i was also wearing a bra in this dream, but nobody noticed

My dreams are always strange when I'm sick, and tonight was no exception.

First there was a dream in which I was a game show announcer who had to swing around from a rope attached to the ceiling of a large theater. I woke up when I lost my grip on the rope.

Then there was a dream where I was an aspiring firefighter who had to carry giant coins into a labyrinthine underground museum gift shop before I would be allowed to have my uniform.

There was a third dream, but I don't actually remember anything other than that it was weird.

i can definitely feel pain in my dreams, but curiously not usually if it's self-inflicted

    Do I ever.
Heh, I can pretty much sum up those days as "the era of the S1."

    image

Mine was a Captivate. Good phone, but I literally had the dumbest data plan anyone has ever come up with ever, so I couldn't really use it the way I wanted.

That changed after I got my One X+, though I ended up giving that up because of the lack of freedom in ROMs; the S4 is a little better, but AT&T has locked my bootloader and recovery image so I'm stuck with Safestrap until they break in.

    Tesco is a supermarket, so.
  • ...isn't a grocery store the same thing as a supermarket?
  • Also Tesco makes me think of my UK trip, so I love it by proxy
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
Grocery stores are small. Supermarkets are big. And generally evil.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
'supermarket' seems to imply a bigger store, somehow

but as far as i'm aware they're basically synonyms

  • im still not sure how this dude nabbed an official remix spot from Depeche Mode

    glad he did tho
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
like, a supermarket is always big

a grocery store could be any size

    i think

Must be a regional thing. AFIAK most Americans use the terms interchangeably...

In any event, you have given me a perfect excuse to go all sperg and post photos I've taken of supermarkets

  • it kinda weirds me out that both of the big grocery chains around here are apparently fairly local

Also, Tesco's CEO blamed food waste on customers for daring to not buy damaged food.

EDIT: No wait, it was a spokesman apparently?
