Hey, could I get a few people who know what they're doing when it comes to CCGs help me iron out some rules for the one I've been working on?
my only advice in this regard is to ignore the advice of anyone who plays Magic too often and especially anyone who reads that one guy's game design columns on the Magic website, because they will try to make your game exactly Magic.
I'm not exactly looking for advice, I'm just looking for someone to tell me when a particular mechanic doesn't feel right or if the game just doesn't seem particularly compelling.
I'd like that CCG that's socially pervasive enough to permit someone to pull "The Game" out of their pocket and cause everyone to lose it except for those people who also have "Anti-Mindvirus" in their pocket and pull it out immediately afterwards.

"When trying to do something, completely ignore the input of people familiar with the most successful example of that thing in the world" is actually the worst advice I can think of for anything. You're gonna want to take a look at Magic, if only so you can see why certain decisions are made and how different decisions would result in different gameplay.
although my latest CCG fixation Hearthstone can sometimes be an exception in that regard. Not because the art is bad (although it sometimes is, "Secret Keeper" is just....silly), but because most of it is not original to the game, being recycled from either the old Warcraft CCG or from the Warcraft comicbooks. Even skill art from WoW in a couple places.

That's not wrong, but 95% of the people who are Magic fans and do the things I outlined above know little about game design outside of MtG.
It's not a bad idea to take a look at Magic itself (it is one of the "original" CCGs after all), and even read up on its design principles, but you rarely want to ask bigtime fans of it for input, which is more what I was trying to say.
That's possibly true of all card games but I don't know any, for instance, huge YuGiOh fans.
