I would theorize that its just something your mind has latched onto, as Ashes are actually a particularly culturally reinforced thing.

It's used to signify the end of a violent transformation(fire) and oftentimes you can it being referenced in such a way.

The use of a creature, person, or item's ashes slowing crumbling is an opt seen symbolism in our culture.

Or maybe you just like Pokemon, and you're fanatic about ketching them all.

The ashes in both cases appear to be something along the lines of 'this used to be a person, but now it isn't; isn't that creepy? Isn't that sad?'.

If it is symbolic, then it's something about death.

They just portrayed the nerds ignoring their girlfriends asking for sex because they are too obsessed with Halo.

I am perplexed. Earlier, the series presented the average nerd as baffled and mystified by women, as shown by the reactions when the girlfriends visit a comic book shop. And now, the nerd is shown to eschew the temptations of women for the purity of finding a ledge and sniping people with the rocket launcher.

Surely, they should be able to keep their stereotypes straight, right?

Actually what it's supposed to do is subtly drive the audience into laughing themselves, It's a psychology mind trick
