maybe if it didn't match up with your religious beliefs
HOWEVER
I'm agnostic but I still enjoy Xmas, so make of that what you will
Christmas is only a semireligious holiday nowadays I think. Unless you celebrate Orthodox Christmas, which is far more religious than secular, but that's also about a month later than "normal" (Catholic) Christmas.
do you guys think this kind of music is like, cheap, in some way?
it's that "psychadelic downtempo / spiritual ambient trance / whatever" stuff that has no real genre as far as I know. No sites seem to be dedicated to this kinda stuff so I always assume it's like, considered trash music by a lot of people? But I like a lot of it, especially Sphongle.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I have no religious beliefs
Admittedly sometimes I feel bad about co-opting what's ostensibly a Christian holiday for my own secular purposes, but FUCK YOU I'LL CELEBRATE WHAT I WANT
Admittedly Sphongle is somewhat heavier than what I am talking about necessarily (although I do like them a fair bit as well. At least their first album, which may be the only one I've heard).
I just like chill psychadelic music, is that so wrong?
Honestly other than that single album my exposure to Mariachi is dreadfully small. If you have any recommendations yourself I'd love to hear them. I always like exposing myself to new styles of music, not to mention great sample material.
Of the albums I have, Chalino Sanchez's are my favorite. (Actually, I can't tell if the Chalino CDs I have are albums or compilations. But whatever.) Although he didn't just record with mariachi ensembles—he also did it with Norteño and banda ensembles, or just guitars.
Other than that, I have some albums from Laserlight Digital (who have CDs of traditional music from all over the world). I'm not sure if these are particularly good, or if an LD engineer just went to Tijuana and asked the first mariachi band they met to play twelve songs.
No idea how feasible it is to find any of those on the internet. I could share 'em via my dropbox if you'd like, but it would have to wait until tomorrow.
Also, Calexico has a live recording—with Mariachi Luz de Luna backing them for half the show—available for free on the Internet Archive. It's "Live at White Stage" IIRC.

I feel like relying on the convenience of digital cameras means I'm not a "real" photographer
Because, like, instead of carefully framing shots, I can just take a bunch of shots of the same thing and delete the ones I don't like
Of course, Calexico has a bunch of free live recordings on the Internet Archive. It's just that the White Stage show has the most mariachi of any of them.

I meant more for the other stuff but I like me some vintage Calexico too.
I don't quite grok the style they went with later on that was more traditionally indie rock, but I love The Blacklight.

That's true...it just feels weird to take the idea of shooting indiscriminately (because there's no film to worry about wasting) for granted

no it's horrible it's like putting my genitalia in a garbage disposal while using netscape as clearly indicated by my vicious condemnation in my two most recent posts

And Christians haven't co-opted lots of things because it was convenient? *trollface*
* They have an array of magical powers. * If you drink with them, it will heal any wound. * They can gore people who annoy them. * They are hooved quadrapeds.

Watching MLP now
This shot of Twilight on the train station platform shows the railroad ties laying over the rails
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure a train wouldn't work if you built the tracks like that

*maniacal laughter*
also I did this earlier because I was sad. I just took a track I already had and slowed it down a lot.
