I believe my ancestors were ethnic Frisians/Old Dutch. Some lived in other parts of the low countries though, including some that are now part of Germany, I believe.
Thing that bugs me in CK2: if, at any point, Scandinavians conquer England while the culture is still Anglo-Saxon, they will just be of the Old Norse culture forever, instead of developing an Anglo-Norse culture, similar to what the game does when Normans take it over and create English culture.
In fact there's a mod that literally adds a dozen different Sicilian cultures ("regular" Sicilian, which is Italian+Norman, Scandosicilian, which is Italian+Norse, Islamic Sicilian, Italian+Berber, there are more but I can't remember them offhand)
Scandinavia has been quite thoroughly balkanized. I'm not sure what exactly is keeping it so destabalized but it's been cut up for a while now. A mercenary band (The Company of the Star) even rules part of the Swedish coast.
Same for Sicily, down to the "part of it is ruled by a mercenary band" (in this case The Navarrese Company, who are Basque). Lots of small counts, pockets of Byzantine influence, and Venice rules quite a large chunk of it as well.
my dad used to talk about his Sami heritage all the time, and he thought because sami people are discriminated against in scandinavia it should get him special considerations over here for some reason
the funny thing is that he has no Sami heritage. none. zip. nada. He just has this thing where some idea pops into his head and he convinces himself that it's true, it's the strangest thing.
no like he genuinely thinks he has Sami heritage, even though i have no clue how he could have came to that conclusion because any amount of research would show that he's mostly german with some scottish in there
You know, that's the twenty seventh time you knew a word you hated enough that we heapers erased your memory. Since we erased your memory of the other 26 times, you have to take our word for it that it actually happened only 26 times.
Possibly stupid thought: if I'm rehearsing for eighteen hours a week, preventing me from getting a job, I really think I should get some sort of compensation.

Your ancestors ruined my Scandinavian England.
i'm just taking the piss
if Britain counted as Scandinavian i could be all 'i'm a big scary Viking, fear me!'
instead i'm from a nation of tea-drinkers and football hooligans

lame, then
Not so much after William the Saponaceous had eighty per cent of the Saxons killed.
Note: Saxons =/= Picts/British =/= Celts =/= Welsh/Cymri.
My ancestry is Swedish. I'll spare you the genealogical lesson.
(Is Mormon, and has a chart of my ancestors going back nine generations in my room).
although I am not entirely sure how without having my family tree on hand.
OK
Although both Kingdoms are ruled by the Occitanian de Melguil dynasty, which is interesting.

No. If you were my kid, you'd have a hat on at all times.
But if your dad cares about the Sami situation, then I think your dad is awesome.
nice hat
Yeah, stateside, there's no reason for special treatment.
i can see how it might not be worth raising the subject if he's over it
That my theatre schedule prevents me from getting a job makes it a lot worse.
unless you are speaking generally.
. Be safe, my friend.
