Okay, yeah, I hate the way that women are drawn, and I can't stand all the fan service and shirtless guys; but I really do like how the Jaegergenerals are drawn, how Klaus Wulfenbach's nose and eyebrows are drawn, I like the drawings of gears and the backgrounds, I think it has a really good colorist (actually, several really great colorists), I think Othar Trygvassen, GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER, has one of the best character designs I've seen in a while, I like Zoing's character design, and I like the Jaeger's hats.
"The results of logic- of "natural progession" Boring! An "expected result?" Dull! An "obvious next step" Pfui! Where's the fun in that? We want to see the unexpected! The strange and terrible! A dream merely soothes- but our nightmares make us run!BEHOLD!"
Wow. Lotta exclamation points, bolds, and italics there (actual comic is in ALLCAPS, but I'm not going to post it that way). Only thing missing is Colors with underlines in big font AND HARD TO READ ALLCAPS WITH MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!
Also, in a later strip I just got to: best sister ever.
Other later strip: Eyebrows Junior is growing up to be cranky, just like Eyebrows Senior. Also Foureyes McMustache needs his own comic strip where he rides dinosaurs.
Other other later strip: You know, when you say, "kill them all if you have to" it never actually ends up getting them all killed. Or actually getting you the thing that you're willing to kill them all for.
Other other other later strip: People wearing those big poofy fluffy hats that the british royal guards wear (you know, the ones that never move or react) are inherently trustworthy.
Other other other other later strip: Two words that never get old.
Other other other other other later strip: That last panel. Just, that last panel.
Other other other other other other later strip: If that's the stupidest thing you've heard today, then you're pretty darn lucky, there.
Other other other other other other other later strip: In the second panel, I spot a triangle and also something purple! Also, that last panel!
Other other other other other other other other strip: Lots of words. And you know what comes with people talking? People being able to survive water! And you know where that leads? 3D graphics! There's a reason why Frogger never spoke and never went in water.
Other other other other other other other other other later strip: Oh, it's this guy.
Other other other other other other other other other other later strip: Nice try, but it's part of your character design.
Wierd ghost story, wierd story about bunnies, oh wait, here's Paz. Dang it, romance taking over the story.
Eunnnh, neither GG nor GC were as fun as I expected, but I think I went through them way too fast, I only read about a third of the words.
And ooooooookay, that was rushed, awkward, and altogether far too good a rendition of hormonal teenagers acting like blockheads.
And wow, the two background characters who are a running gag of hating each other and then loving each other are now the best thing in this binge so far. Is it wrong that the running gag making a self-parody of something completely stupid is so great? Because I would watch the heck out of http://gunnerkrigg.com/?p=936 this.
I have mixed feelings about it. I have seen the Foglios' other work, and they can do some exceptional surreal slapstick with that weird style of theirs, but it feels too loose and wobbly for the kind of story that they're telling at a lot of points in that comic, insofar as I can tell. Not the funnier bits, but the serious ones.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Yes, those two characters, if I'm drawing the right inferences for that.
They're cute together, in their weird platonic way..
Yeah, those two characters. I like them, but I mean, It just seems to me that neither of them are, well, neither of them are, well, the sort of characters I would associate with romance. It's kind of like shipping HCE from Finnegan's wake with a face that you see when you burn toast and the burn marks make a pattern.
Anyways, in GC, I got to the infamous page 1049, which I saw when it first came out (I was told by a bunch of people on the TvT forums that page 1049 was soooo sooo cool and you should compare it to page 1; but it's not a spoiler by itself.)
I associate them as people who care a lot about each other, to the point that it's cute.
Now, you may say that this is identical (or at least analoguous) to romance, but romance generally has certain cues, both sexual and platonic, that make it it's own thing.
Comments
their proportions look all off and they hold themselves funny
I can appreciate Gone Home, but liking The Stanley Parable is something I cannot do.
