I think I will use Marisa from now on. :o She is mah gurl.

Marisa is probably my favorite of the "main" protagonists in Touhou.

Reimu's sort of a jerk and Sakuya doesn't show up enough to count.
Marisa is a jerk too but she is less grumpy than Reimu is. I like Sanae (I guess she is kind of number 4 in the cast?) and she is a fun-loving nerdy otaku. ^_^
    yeah but Marisa is like

    likable.

There are a lot of fanon twists on Reimu that are likable too, but in the games themselves she's never struck me particularly well.

I tend to forget about Sanae because she doesn't come up in fanworks very often and I don't actually play the Touhou games that much.

    nerd hate is mean

some nerds are jerks but so are lots of other people

    this is important

the argument has been made that certain things about *nerd culture* make nerds more hateful than other groups of people

this is largely predicated on who you consider a nerd, which is can be basically anybody, because the term doesn't mean a lot.

Why is it in Satan's best interest to make people fall in love with each other? Wouldn't homophobia be more like something Satan would be up for spreading?

Like, what happens when a significant group in a country is increasingly oppressed by the government, and then propaganda/the government/the public send the message that those people are unwanted in that country and a waste of life?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
And then, violence against those people becomes increasingly acceptable.

well as a few people on reddit pointed out, there's a certain irony in associating Nazis with the EU given that neo-Nazism is alive and well in Russia (and associated with homophobia, of course)

i'm guessing it might be a reference to Golden Dawn, but still

people use all kinds of bent reasoning to justify their prejudices.

Russian homophobia is particularly virulent since it's endorsed by both the state and Patriarch Kirill who is effectively the head of all religious matters in Russia. So if you don't have the support of one in your homophobic efforts, you have the other. It's very sad, really.

lol should I feel guilty that I live in a country where I am allowed to simply exist as what I am without having to answer to a police force? Or should I feel hopeless because I know that there is no way to eradicate evil from the world because human beings are monsters and do not fight back unless it is in their own interest, generally speaking.

yeah, that always struck me as paradoxical, too

(when i was a kid i assumed homophobia was un-Christian and was shocked when i eventually learned otherwise)

I worry that I don't do enough fighting, myself...

You don't have to feel guilty for living where you do.

The "good guys" in the world are the people who have the power, and people only escape violence when they fight back and make their enemies afraid of them. It isn't like a Disney movie.

don't feel guilty, feel proud, or at least fortunate

if only more places were more tolerant

it IS un-Christian. Arguing for the hatred and persecution of a group of people based on who they love is violently, horrifically un-Christian. Which is why it's disgusting that high ranking officials in multiple catholic, protestant, and orthodox churches endorse the practice.

To homophobes, non-straight romantic love just doesn't count. It doesn't even exist, all feelings like that can only be lust (which is why a lot of them fixate on the label "homosexual", I think).

idk what the old guidelines about sex and such are exactly but no one follows them; I feel quite convinced, however, that Jesus intended for people not to judge each other.

Jesus is wholly mum on the subject of sexuality. There is not a word of it that I remember reading in the entire New Testament.

Judgements on sexuality come from the Old Testament and, in particular, a handful of passages in Leviticus and a few other places that are generally agreed now to refer to treatment of prisoners of war, since that particular part of the Old Testament is largely the history and laws of the Israelite people, and is as much a political book as a holy one.

anyway I shouldn't keep talking about this since we are all basically agreeing with each other...
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
^^ ah, I thought it was something like that. :o I knew Jesus never said anything about gayness, except if you interpret the quote about "eunuchs" as that, but he never condemned that.
  • eh, agreement is good at least as a form of reinforcement. I like to know that there are sane people in this country and in the world with good judgment and a sense of morality, wherever it may come from.

You're conflating lust and eros and eros with love in general (there are four types).

Love for a mate/desired one, or the Greek god who embodies same. The other loves are storge (love of family), philos (friendship intense eough to be love) and agape (charity or altruism).
