Seems like they only started including those consistently once text messaging became a thing...

at one point the idea of letters on telephone keypads seemed novel to me
I remember a few phones from my childhood (the 1990s) that lacked Q or Z, but even back then cordless phones and mobile phones were starting to include them.

And rendering "at&t" in lowercase just looks like an insincere attempt to seem "friendly"
