I'm at the Old Deaf School Park to take pictures
Is it bad that being around homeless people makes me uncomfortable? I know they're going to ask for money and I don't have any on me...

Amusing things I've seen this morning: two people blatantly jaywalking while two uniformed police officers looked right at them
It's funny how in the suburbs everyone is careful to obey the walk/don't walk signals but in the city even the traffic cops don't care
i dunno, i'm reading this and it really is making me feel uncomfortable
if there's one thing i hate more than changing stuff permanently, it's having change imposed on me by other people
I can understand that.
It frustrates me that the traditional sort of desktop setup seems to be becoming a thing of the past. The main reason I use Xfce, despite feeling its interface inferior to GNOME 2, is that it doesn't seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel the way GNOME 3 or Ubuntu's Unity are.
I've actually gotten used to the way GNOME 3 does things, to the point where I've caught myself trying the top-left corner thing on Windows. :P
Xfce is nice, but I've noticed on Debian, at least, that some of its dependencies end up bringing in half of GNOME for no good reason.

Anecdote time: When my family first got a Sega Genesis in 1991, the only game we had with it was Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse.
My parents managed to learn the game inside and out that they would challenge each other to speedruns to see who could beat the game the fastest.
Then they eventually got bored with that and instead decided to compete for who could jump the highest to get the gem at the end of each level.

You know, it's interesting. I'm not very technical--I barely know the basic shell commands--but I like Linux because of the sort of pick-and-choose nature of it. If I want this window manager and that desktop and this file manager and that text editor, I can set it all up relatively easily.
Heck, I'd argue that installing things on Ubuntu even tends to be easier than installing things on Windows. On Ubuntu you just type "apt-get install fluttershy" and it will download and install Fluttershy for you. On Windows you have to go to http://fluttershypony.org/pegasus/download/ and find the Windows x64 version and download and run an installer and it's kinda tedious.
