Batman is a comic book character. He is a rich dude who dresses as a bat and beats up criminals. Many adolescents (and people who never left adolescence) find this entertaining
I kind of like Jacobin. They are frequently pretentious, but they do not strike me as humourless in the way that some similar outfits are. That list is a good example of that.

The problem with the batman article, in my mind at least, was that it seemed to imply that the Batman films were some sort of cryptofascist propaganda, which is a very silly thing to say.
But if one takes the statement and shuffles around the parts, saying that the Batman films (and the character, popularity and development of Batman in general) are symptomatic of disturbing cultural shifts, you get a hypothesis that fits the facts, seems much more plausible and is more fun to think about.

I posted a link to a video about this exact topic—the disturbing trend in superhero movies toward justifying destructive, authoritarian behaviours in the name of "safety and security"—about a month ago, if I am not mistaken.

You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

I actually watched that when you posted it. It was a pretty good video. I need to see the rest of that guy (a.k.a. Folding Ideas)'s videos at some point. Thanks for introducing him to me.

You are welcome.
I like his work a lot. He's a very thoughtful guy, which is something I find lacking in most people that work in that sort of medium.
More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
