The movie is what happens when you get a lost South American tribe to do animation based on stolen clipart and Disney designs, and then hold the family of a random Polish guy hostage and force him to do every voice at gunpoint while watching the movie without preparation.

There are actually two Microsoft webmail services called "Outlook" right now, confusingly.

The older one, which tends to be the one schools use as it's part of Office 365, is "Outlook Web App", and until recently looked something like this.

The one Tre posted up there is "Outlook.com", which launched last year as an eventual replacement for Hotmail.

The latter is decent, IMO, though I still prefer Gmail. The former is typical of the sort of overly-corporate bad design that plauged Microsoft for much of the 2000s. (To make matters more confusing, Outlook Web App was recently updated so it has the same blue color scheme as Outlook.com, but the same clunky interface.)

In December 2013, a horse had sex with another horse. This captivated the attention of the American news media for weeks, as the public had never seen such a thing before. By January 2014, investigators concluded it was, in fact, Anonus who was responsible, with the horse sex meant as a distraction while he snuck into Disney headquarters and stole the Lucasfilm properties. Anonus was found guilty of Horse-Based Fraud and sentenced to 5 days at Kmart.

Disney is the perfect home for Star Wars and the only reason I'd want to own Indiana Jones is to grit my teeth, make the fifth movie for Paramount, and then own the rights to any more movies

So, for those playing along at home, Microsoft has used the name Outlook for at least four different products:

    • Microsoft Outlook (1997-present): PIM and email client. Replacement for Schedule+ and the original Microsoft Exchange Client.
    • Microsoft Outlook Express (1997-2001): Basic email client. Intended as a companion to Internet Explorer.
    • Outlook Web App (1997-present): Webmail interface for Exchange mail server. Previously called Outlook Web Access and Exchange Web Access.
    • Outlook.com (2012-present): "Metro"-style webmail interface, intended as replacement for/rebranding of Hotmail.

The only thing those four actually have in common is that they all relate to email.

    ...You know, you're right.

Disney will treat Star Wars well, won't they?

I hope so, despite their every intention of milking it to death (its adherence to a timeline makes this somewhat awkward to me as well). They'll be kinder to it than Fox ever would be, at least.

It bugs me that Disney bought Lucasfilm just for Star Wars and is going to sit on the LucasArts properties (despite my lack of interest in those, I do feel bad for their fans), though.

Yeah, I used to be afraid of Shel Silverstien, but my parents didn't use it in any interesting way, unlike Gregs.

And, also, SA isn't worth caring about any more than Lesswrong is.

I remember being sad when Shel Silverstein died

We spent all of our class library time the next day sitting around while the librarian read Silvertein's poems

    Annoyance of the day:

AVG supports scanning encrpyted email...but it only supports SMTPS, not STARTTLS. Few things support SMTPS anymore, and the ones that do make it hard to configure. So we can't scan outgoing emails locally.

(Not a huge loss, though, since Google Apps is serving as our MX.)

    i return

    i bought myself some wingtips

    and a trench coat

a trench coat that actually looks good, is functional and fits well

given that it has a good removeable lining, and i have a nice field jacket and a super rad cashmere overcoat i do not think i will be needing to buy another jacket or coat for the next 15 odd years

SHODAN has been activated once again. But this time, something is different. This time, she is experiencing an emotion that she has never known. Can she forge a bond with the woman running around her complex, or will the world oppose their forbidden love?

When they are found out, a little green-haired assistant should run out screaming.

Shel Silverstein also wrote pervy folk songs and drew risqué cartoons for Playboy, so this shouldn't be entirely surprising.

That's one of the cooler things about Shel Silverstein, to me...this guy who wrote all these beloved childhood poems also wrote all these bawdy songs for grown-ups

    It's late September

This is pretty much the point in the year where it seems like you just gotta wait out the rest of 2013

Of course, the last four months of the year are usually a lot of fun in their own right...
  • Have you seen any of Ted Geissel's political cartoons? Eesh. Some pretty heavy stuff there.
