I got it as part of my vocational counseling program. The idea being to use it to look for jobs and such, but I can use it for anything.
I got a penny from 1939 as change after buying Tekken yesterday. I have to wonder how many people, less sentimental than I, have seen it and spent it, and how many hands it changed until someone even considered the concept of a videogame.

When I was younger I used to think the wider ones were ugly, but now I actually prefer them for three-digit numbers...which, y'know, is the standard anyways.
Though the older three-digit shields are still cool. Here's a 1961-spec:

The current standards specify the narrow shields for 1- and 2-digit numbers, and the wider shields for 3-digit numbers. What I did was take the current 2-digit shields and put 3-digit numbers on them ,using Series B to make them fit.
Previous standards, such as the original '57 Interstate shields or the '61 US shield above, only used one design for 2- and 3-digit route shields, just with narrower numbers. In fact, that 250 shield actually uses the now-discontinued FHWA Series A.
