It is true that a rape joke isn't inherently worse than a murder joke for instance but the reason it is a sensitive thing is that rape is a relevant problem in this culture that is continually normalized and rationalized and continues to hurt people with victims being silenced or even blamed, and making jokes about it does no good for anyone. I think this culture can (in general) agree that murder is wrong.
I never saw why the idea of a holy war was so repugnant to people. If you can war for resources, for political ideals, for money and gold, why can't you fight for that which is most important?
Also, nobody realizes the extreme anger and hatred that can be provoked in the human soul; there comes a point when you're so mad, that your very being is on fire, that I don't think you're truly responsible for your actions because you aren't in your right mind, the same as if you're on drugs.
Aliroz, I don't think you really thought this one through.

If you think that killing people over a religion is okay then I will insist you are a troll.
Actually, I am 100% trolling, I don't think anything short of stopping genocides and horrific oppression is worth going to war over.
A holy war is awful not just for being a war but also for its perversion of all that is truly holy. That is why it is so repugnant to people, especially those who understand religion.
If you are killing for religion, you misunderstand what religion is all about. Religion is like a blanket to comfort the spirit and teach all to love their fellow men, to being people together in love and kindness. Missionaries are essentially saying,"I have a blanket for you, it's always worked for me, I hope you are warm under your blanket, but there's always room under mine.".
If you try to poke holes in someone's blanket, YOU ARE MISSING THE WHOLE POINT.
If you fight over religion, then you are doing it wrong.
Religion should be the cause of peace and forgiveness, not of hatred and war.
Saying that Religion is worth fighting for us like saying that love is best achieved by hatred.
Is Religion worth killing for? No. Religion is worth much more than that. Religion is more important than that. Religion is worth living for, worth giving for, worth forgiving for, worth giving the time of your life in service for, worth peacemaking for, worth laying down your gun and putting away your wrath for.
To die and kill, to take lives and break hearts, takes one day and then it is over. To live, forgive, and give; takes a lifetime; to wake up and keep going on, to endure and love and make friends of those who have offended you, that is truly amazing.
It is easy to take your life, it is harder to give your life.
If it is okay to say this, I tend to agree with Miko about the "Gush About Heapers You Like" thread being unnecessary. I also feel like it especially serves no real good purpose here where the community seems to be rather close-knit.
To make a long story short, I guess this pretty much summarizes things.
LW: As the person who started the original thread on TVT, I tend to agree. The last few posts in the thread here are actually mocking the entire concept.

I am trying to play Gradius on NES but I literally cannot figure out how to select anything other than "speed up;" thus, my ship goes at insane speeds but is utterly incapable of protecting itself against the flying rocks in the first stage.

Why is the power up button the same as the shoot button. And why is it the same for both buttons, when there are TWO BUTTONS ON THE NES CONTROLLER TO PICK FROM THAT ARE NOT START AND SELECT.

So, you destroy enemies to pick up the "power up" item. When you pick it up, "speed up" is highlighted. You don't want that; you want to advance it up to "missile" or something. But that requires picking up another power up item. Here is the catch: if you shoot (which is required in order to reveal power up items) then it uses the power up and reverts the meter to the beginning, effectively making it impossible to do anything other than become too fast to control, and have no weapons at all.

Why are power ups random. Why must two appear at a time for it to be possible to not speed up? Why is speeding up mandatory if you accidentally pick one up without another appearing?
