For some reason I keep watching Peabody's Improbable History shorts

I kind of like taking existing cultures and exaggerating them (so close to using flandernizing there).
Like, there's this version of Britain that I thought up in which everything's stuck in the Victorian Era. Geothermal hotspot under Wales and coal deposits in Ireland and Scotland allow just about everything to run on steam. And the torment of children, per standard. And even though most countries have rudimentary electrical power and Germany's running off of a nuclear reactor, Britain's dueling with Germany for the most advanced country.
And the entire upper-class runs on tea. Literally. Tea in that universe contains a drug that suppresses emotions and increases focus. If tea ran out for more than a few days, British society would quickly devolve into Mad Max, except that everyone wears Top Hats and rides steam-powered Penny Farthings.
Well, Tea is already kind of a drug that increases focus and suppresses distraction. And the Victorian British spent so much of their money on tea and consumed it so much; it might very well have been their fix, their drug.

Brood is a fun word to say; brood brood brood.
