Yarrun, stay after class and write "I will not make light of the Son of God" 153 times on the blackboard. And then do it again in a different language. And then do it again in a third.

Jesus was not a humorless sod, Aliroz.
Dude, I know that. Jesus was an incorrigible punster; what with the Gamla (camel) and Galma (Gnat) pun in "Easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle..." and in the "Straining for a gnat and swallowing a camel" and with the amazing pun of giving Simon the name of Peter and saying "Upon this rock I will build my foundation".
Seriously, how many groaners went unrecorded in the Gospels.
Also, part of how Nathaniel became a prophet was his "How can anything good come out of Nazareth?" wisecrack.
Seriously, that "Let the dead bury their dead" verse in the bible is a great "Oh snap, you just got told." moment.
Also, the writing on the board was only an excuse to mention the number 153; and give a cookie to the first person to get the reference. The "Repeat it three times" is a reference to my trinary compulsion.
So today I went to the college to pick up some notebooks and I also bought myself a new mouse and a headset. I have excuses for both (my mouse's scroll wheel was broken and I may need a headset for my Media class), but they were both kinda splurge items.
also I am now able to stream again thanks to the headset. Need to find a way to get Isaac to not run like crap while doing so though.
can I get one or more of you guys to watch something for me real quick?
I've got Isaac to run half-decently (that is, lag is not super-noticable at least on my end) but I'm running it in low quality (which sucks) and a very low bitrate so it looks like crap, I need to know if it's at least tolerable or not.
I'm probably going to run some more tests. I'm concerned about what could happen when larger numbers of enemies are onscreen at once, in particular ones that fire a lot of bullets (the Peep boss fight may be hell here).
Yeah, the guy in that costume is really doofy-looking.
Fine, I'll get you that report by Friday.
I don't understand why even a single person is a fan of South Park. It's gross-out, profane-out, obscene-out, humor and its very poorly-drawn.
Why does Tv Tropes have thousands of words on South Park and Angry Video Game Nerd and Naruto, and not a single one on The King's Shadow. Not. A. Single. One.
It's intentionally poorly-drawn, you know. And what's wrong with gross-out humor? It's stupid, sure, and I don't like it either but that's sounding more like a personal criticism.

One is an incredibly popular comedy show. The other is an obscure book. I can hardly speak of its quality, but the fact is, South Park is infinitely more well known.
Mo, I checked your thing and it seems to be working A-Okay.
Aliroz, that reminds me. You all should read The Book of the Dun Cow. It is my favorite obscure book. It combines heavy religious imagery (mostly from Christianity) with the world of beast fables, and it does so in a way that's thought-provoking and deep. Or a morality play mixed with epic LOTR-style content.
It got a National Book Award and yet almost no one in its intended age group has heard of it. I know this because I was the one who had to make a TvTropes page for it. You should read it. You should read it. You should read it.
I wish I could have these huge long discussions of The King's Shadow like you guys have of MLPFIM and Homestuck; but nobody ever read that book except me.
I mean, between The Westing Game, The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen, The King's Shadow, Figgs and Phantoms, and The Search For Delicious, you have some of my very favorite books.
But no, Doctor Who, MLPFIM, Homestuck, Avatar The Last Airbender, and Wheel of Time are all well-known.

Okay, that's really not fair, because it wasn't an exchange of obscure books.
I'll read The Book of the Dun Cow, and you don't have to read any of my obscure books.
Anyways, I absolutely loved Ethan Frome. The writing is absolutely enchanting, so much that I shivered when it talked of cold and snow; and felt a pain in my leg at the ending. Also, a pain in my heart...
It takes a very good author to write half a million words into a good story with no real flaws and make it flow. It takes a very good author to write a very short book like Ethan Frome and make it into a good story with no real writing flaws and make it flow. I can't remember the metaphor you used for it, but it was good. I think it involved boxing or wrestling.

Our teacher read The Search For Delicious to us in 2nd grade.

One of my stated intentions way back when I started writing my thingumajig was that I wanted to write a story that took the concept of beast fables and subverted their usual intentions by exploring uncomfortable philosophical propositions and morally ambiguous conclusions through anthropomorphism. The idea has always appealed to me on some level: You say something about humans with non-human protagonists, but it is always to enforce a certain moral or virtue. Why not play with that a little?
I also really wanted to see what would happen if you wrote a heroic fantasy story with a Ligottian antagonist, but that's... related but different.

I know that that guy at Jesus's feet is supposed to be kneeling, but it looks like he's doing push-ups.

The metaphor...something about being able to knock a person out with a single punch...
Well, time to go archive hunting for it

And lo and behold, going into tumblr's Ethan Frome tag yielded something besides 'lol this book is so boring'.

But still, that picture.
I mean, that's it.
That's the book.
