ummm I watched like a boat-ton of Touhou world records, and I sum it up thusly:
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil: bomb-spam in all the right places and super-graze. Perfect Cherry Blossom: shoot unfocused and super-graze. Imperishable Night: use human abilities in stages and youkai abilities to super-graze on bosses. Mountain of Faith: death-bomb in all the right places. Subterranean Animism: super-graze. Undefined Fantastic Object: super-graze, and summon blue UFOs in all the right places. Ten Desires: spam bombs and trance non-stop to get lots of blue souls and point-blank bosses.

The Toga and the normal humans are actually angels, with the Toga sort of acting as liaisons between Hell//Heaven, and the humans being there simply to watch over the Haibane. The Sinbound are Haibane with greater amounts of sin I.E suicide, murder, etc, hence the greater difficulty of taking the Day of . Child Haibane exist because of the concept of Original Sin.
Of course, this is probably all wrong and overthinking it, but it's fun to guess.

Also, I used earbuds when I worked in the distribution center, because we had to have one ear uncovered at all times.
You might want to spoiler-tag this. Even if it is speculation and I already know about the symbolic aspects, I really do want to see that show and would prefer not to have too much revealed.

In like 3 hours of Yume Nikki I got 19 of the 24 effects without a guide because I already played through it twice and I am making a habit of doing it once a year. :) It is wonderful. It is even better if you don't use a guide at first, but some of the infamous scary scenes are quite difficult to find without knowing how to encounter them so looking up the secrets you missed after you finish it is a good idea too.

Donpachi is supposed to be CAVE's easiest (and first) game, but it's still too hard for me. :/ I got to the last stage like once before. CAVE makes the hardest video games in all of existence, barring none. It will be difficult to convince me otherwise.

There's some Buddhist ideas that may help explain things as well, but it's not a bad attempt by any means.
Haibane Renmei is sort of impossible to over-think, so long as you remain in the context of some sort of religious themed final resting place stopping point.
