Looking at pictures of a Target store on Flickr pulled up a weird childhood memory: When I was 3 or 4, they replaced the checkout signs (the big lighted things with the checkout numbers) at the Cub Foods at Columbus Square with large red ones reminiscent of a Target store. I remember excitedly telling my mother that they had "the same" checkout signs as Target--though even at that age, I recognized that the typeface used for the numbers was different.

Also, said checkout signs looked like these:

It's weird that the KS here opened almost ten years ago, and it seems like it was "always" there to me.

Funny, I sort of have the opposite thing going with the nearby Meijer. It's been there about 10 years, but every once in a while I go in there and remember shopping there when it was new.

Wow, I didn't even notice that, or I would have fixed it myself.

Also mindleap means I must tell you that Value City was always called Schottenstein's in the Columbus area. You know, back when Value City was still in business.

This is pretty old-sounding. (It is from 2006)
  • Why does it remind me of some sort of unholy mix between The Sims and Space Channel 5?
  • I liked The Sims' music.

I should really start playing TS3 again.

Apparently my grandmother was very excited to hear I'd be building a dollhouse, because my grandfather used to build dollhouses for my mother when she was a kid.

Also, it's probably flanderizey of me to say, but I prefer the World News Tonight theme to the NBC Nightly News theme, or rather, The Mission.

  • NBC Nightly News is the only news i watch

For some reason the sameness of the Wendy's exterior comforts me.

Also they seem to look different inside too.
  • What if I squeeze myself into any shape
    And I still don't fit?
What if I bend myself so much that I break
    And I can't mend it?
What if I burn so bright that the fire goes out
    And I can't stay lit?
    What's the point in it?
I could get good at crying crocodile tears
    Just to get along
I could carry on telling you wanna hear
    'til my voice is gone
But if I finally get to the place that I think is home
    And I don't belong
    What's the point in it?
    Where's the benefit?
When I'm gaining all but I'm losing it

    It's not worth having
If it's too much to hold
    You can dig so deep
That you're left with a hole
Thirsty in a desert with a bag full of gold
Don't wanna end up like pirate bones
What I thought was precious was just a pile o' stones
I might have the treasure but I'd be lying alone
Just a pile of pirate bones
If I forfeit my soul it ain't worth having
If it's something I stole it ain't worth having

What if I stake everything I am on a dream
    And it's counterfeit?
If I reach the end that justifies the means
    Could I live with it?
And if it's true that having too much of any good thing
    Could only make me sick
    What's the point in it
    Where's the benefit
When I'm gaining all but I'm losing it
    Oh, oh

    It's not worth having
If it's too much to hold
    You can dig so deep
That you're left with a hole
Thirsty in a desert with a bag full of gold
Don't wanna end up like pirate bones
What I thought was precious was just a pile o' stones
I might have the treasure but I'd be lying alone
Just a pile of pirate bones
If I forfeit my soul it ain't worth having
If it's something I stole it ain't worth having

It's not wroth that much to me
If losing out is what it means
    To swim in shallow victory
    Is empty, empty
It's just not worth the price
    It's only a fools paradise
If it's draining every drop of life 'til I'm dry like pirate bones

    It's not worth having
If it's too much to hold
    You can dig so deep
That you're left with a hole
Thirsty in a desert with a bag full of gold

For some reason the newest ones don't seem to look like that, but ones built as late as the mid-90s do. I wonder why they decided to drop that exterior when they did.

So remember a while back when Google Maps had the entire length of US 30 marked as "Quebec Route 366"? Well, they've fixed it now, but in the process they seem to have removed all the US shields as well. So now it's just like any other road, but with "US 30" written in text on it.

...I kinda liked it better when it was wrong!

The funny thing is it brings out the weirdo in me who wants to be mad at seeing US 30 "disrespected".

I'm not really in anorak mode now, earlier.

I was earlier but then I had to go and do things and now I'm not.

Also I'm tempted to record myself singing poorly some more. Why?

I'm probably going to go to dinner soon.

You know I have this very fond memory of staying with my uncle and aunt in Cleveland in early August of 2003.

The second night we were there, we went to the this nearby elementary school and the grown-ups played bocce while my brother and sister and I played on the playground. For some reason it's my favorite memory out of the whole trip, even more so than visiting the now-defunct Six Flags park in Aurora or going to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
  • The one good thing about being poor and going to college is that you're more eligible for a greater amount of financial aid.

I probably should start looking into some financial aid...

There are things I should be doing to get ready for school next month but I don't like to think about them...
  • Definitely. ATM I only have to pay about $950 for boarding because of finaid. I may get lucky and get an instate residency need based award when they adjust my residency on the 15th.

I gotta apply for scholarships once the application opens up.

It's a game with a bunch of balls. One player takes a smaller ball and throws it, then everyone has two tries to throw their balls closest to the first ball.

...I think. It's been a while since I played it.

Touch the cow. Do it now.
A game. I played it one time when I was in about 3rd grade, I think.

    ^Or maybe it's what he said. I don't remember

You know, the retail ghost town over off Brice Road has/had a few STOP signs that were faded to the point of looking like blank white signs. The weird part is that they had been like that as long as I can remember, even before all the stores pulled out.

When I was over there earlier this week I saw that at least one of them had been replaced with a small, nonstandard STOP sign printed on a white square. It looked like something store-bought--the edges had small print on them indicating a manufacturer.
