Finally getting around to watching an episode of Gravity Falls. It feels kind of H*R-ish, even though this is an episode Matt didn't write (this one is "Land Before Swine").
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
In the episode "Boyz Crazy", a boy band called "Sev'ral Timez" is central to the A-plot...the name struck me as H*R-esque enough to make me wonder if Matt was responsible for it (indeed, he and series creator Alex Hirsch are credited as its writers).
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I need to watch "Land Before Swine", but I haven't because our cable's been out all week. :\
I find Insight/TWC's business practices bizarre; for some reason when the bill hasn't been paid they shut off the cable TV or the internet access but almost never both.

One minor nit about the show so far: The commercials. ARGH. It's like watching Fox Kids circa 1993. :P No, Disney, I'm not interested in your dumb kidcoms...

Sometimes I find it weird that it's a Disney Channel show; it feels very Cartoon Network-ish in nature to me.
Speaking of which, I made notes for the first episode of Adventure Time but I haven't written my liveblog post yet. Might as well do that soon.
The guy that did Homestar Runner works on Gravity Falls?
Matt Chapman yes, Mike Chapman no
I'm assuming that Fox Kids was really bad about the self-promotion back then? (or just had several shows that were crap and/or nothing to write home about)
Nickelodeon wouldn't touch it (at least not without blandifying it, anyway), Cartoon Network would axe it after a season or two
CN's problem nowadays is more that they cancel the wrong things than canceling stuff too often.
Indeed.
Canning Sym-Bionic Titan was idiotic of them; the reason ("it wasn't selling enough toys" even though there were no toys being made) was stupid, and it was an awful way to treat Genndy Tartakovsky, who'd worked on three of Cartoon Network's best-loved series (Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack)
It's still a shame that Genndy is stuck working on CGI films with no actual voice actors nowadays, especially considering how much he loves working with them.
is this an OFF! joke? (in addition, obviously, to being a doctor who joke)
Reference to the "who's on first" bit, presumably.
"Not selling enough toys" is a rather common reason for CN to kill shows, back from 2004 and 2005. I think that's why the Justice League got the shaft as well. The only show that I can think of that was killed off for another reason was Class of 3000, which became too expensive because of the songs and a copyright lawsuit (which was ruled in the show's favor, but after it was cancelled).

The Justice League shows weren't even owned by the network, they were owned by Warner Bros. (which is a corporate cousin of Cartoon Network's, but still)
According to Jeff Harris, there's actually a history of bad blood between Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation which doesn't make any fucking sense because they are corporate cousins (and WBA would have a hell of a time shopping shows to networks that weren't Cartoon Network, due to the we-won't-air-it-or-treat-it-with-respect-unless-we-own-it nature of kids' TV).
he's a marxist (*i think? he does draw a lot of influence from marx it seems, along with hegel, but philosophy is not my strong suit, myr could prolly tell you more*) who does these long lectures where he kinda rambles from topic to topic and throws out all sortsa weird ideas that might contradict things he's said earlier sometimes.
I think that when it comes right down to it, Zizek's main philosophical allegiance is to Hegel and to a lesser degree, Schelling. He talks about Marx and Lacan a lot too, but to him, I think they're mainly valuable for the light they shed on Hegel.

I don't think this is an Off joke.
