I like Hellsinker but its obscure game mechanics continue to frustrate me. This game was localized by gensokyo.org but it is like the opposite of Touhou where bullet hell is concerned because Touhou is simple, easy to play, and light-hearted, even though it is really hard. Hellsinker is disorienting, has a very steep learning curve (and also locks out many of its features to players who, like me, have yet to get past the fourth boss), and is also really dark and somber.

Despite its failure to survive as an independent studio, the first incarnation of DreamWorks SKG has a certain cool factor to it that no other indie has had since then (the second incarnation has had a rougher time of it and makes fewer movies)...
